Humanitarian crisis is because Congress didn’t properly fund the infrastructure necessary to handle tens of thousands of unaccompanied children (some who may be ill) crossing - the infrastructure was set up to handle adults, not children. More kids will die unless this is fixed.
2. These are the steps unaccompanied kids crossing into that US are subjected to (per laws Congress created). Imagine the scale of deployment of medical personnel needed to ensure every child is properly processed. It’s remarkable more kids haven’t died.
3. Hundreds of sick kids die in US hospitals each year; some of the migrant kids traveling on foot for long distances to enter the US would obviously need more medical care and attention - that requires a much more robust setup than Congress has provided border agents.
