There were 50,036 unaccompanied children who crossed into the US from the southern border in 2018. This is separate from the 107,212 family units who crossed in 2018. These are staggering numbers when you consider the amount of health, welfare and security processing needed.
2. For what it costs to run the federal government for just *half* a day could've paid for the proper infrastructure (more health personnel, judges, facilities) to handle waves of kids and families - goes to show how useless Congress has been about this.
3. CBP data also shows that border apprehensions were higher under Obama than under Trump - unclear if that's because fewer people are getting caught under Trump or because there were fewer illegal attempts to cross the southern border.…
4. More data open to interpretation. Since new border fencing got built under the 2006 Secure Fence Act, border crossing apprehensions dropped by >65%, was this due to the new fences and expanded border enforcement capacity or because of the recession?
5. Since 2013, US processed >300,000 unaccompanied kids plus an additional 250,000 family units - there are procedures in place to track these children and family units once they are released into the US, but that process isn't foolproof or inexpensive.…
