1/ The Trump White House has hired 17 additional lawyers as part of an effort to aggressively assert executive privilege to prevent the advice of Trump advisors from being revealed to House Democrats or in Mueller’s upcoming report.
2/ This is likely an effort to prevent the public from finding out about advice given to Trump as he made decisions that Mueller has scrutinized as part of his obstruction investigation.

Most importantly—what did White House Counsel Don McGahn advice Trump about firing @Comey?
3/ As I discussed at length months ago when the events surrounding Comey’s firing were first reported, McGahn reviewed a letter dictated by Trump to Stephen Miller regarding the firing of Comey and expressed concerns that he had about it. See this thread:
4/ As I explained in that thread,
McGahn’s advice to Trump could be crucial to an obstruction case. If McGahn advised Trump that firing Comey could have significant legal consequences and Trump fired him anyway, that would make an obstruction case much stronger.
5/ We don’t know what McGahn’s advice was, but we know that McGahn later met with Mueller’s team for many hours on multiple occasions. Mueller’s team wouldn’t have met with him for so long if McGahn wasn’t offering important or useful information.
6/ Obviously we don’t know what McGahn told Trump, but given the circumstances, the public has a right to know. Litigation over executive privilege should not be used to delay this information to the public until after the next election. /end
