Happy Friday to our #BIWisdom community! Welcome you our weekly discussions of all things Business Intelligence: Join us to discuss #data #analytics and all related matters.
Briefly to mention the estimable @howarddresner in his absence today from #BIWisdom while on a plane. Not sure if he's headed somewhere warmer than his native New Hampshire. Brr...
You know I'm going to mention the @RealBIEvent and encourage you to join us there. It really is quite different compared to so many other events. In some ways more thought provoking in its #BIWisdom diversity.
Today I want to thank an absent @dennishafley as well before we really get going with #BIWisdom. He's very good at inspiring the research on #success and #value, as are others usually present.
Every time I write a report I think of the #BIWisdom community at my shoulder, asking pertinent questions.
The main topic I want to ask you about is #success with BI: how do you think about the success of your #data and #analytics initiatives? #BIWisdom
Do you have a sense of your success? We ask this question in the research. #BIWisdom
The good news is that the vast majority of people report success with their BI initiatives. #BIWisdom
It's great to see you're thinking along the lines of the #BIWisdom research with these questions ;)
Here are the answers over time in a table. There is a lot of consistency of success in the aggregate. #BIWisdom
Now the scores are also somewhat consistent over geography, and also when reported by people who work in different functions. #BIWisdom
In response to the questions here are the #BIWisdom *measures* of success for both 2017 and 2018. Possibly these should be called methods...
Here are the responses by Business Function. Of course there are *so many* factors of influence for these initiatives. #BIWisdom
For example, #Operations may be doing difficult cutting-edge #IoT analytics, coping with massive #data streams. Equally could be legacy plant an process that's difficult to upgrade. #BIWisdom
Now for a twist, what to do with the success? I'll lob an easy ball and say measure, document, learn, leverage, capitalize. #BIWisdom Possibly #BICC as "BI #Community Center" (just *joking* @howarddresner )
and with that I see we are at 7 minutes past the hour, and I should signal the end to the most rapid #BIWisdom responses. Hopefully @SaraWarnerBI dinner will be ready soon, and @PhantorGorth Scottish bus stop may be looming into view.
I'd like a place to keep probing improvements and best practices for #success with BI - and finding gentle ways to scientifically do more with it, including more research of course. #BIWisdom. I'd do it all here, but twitter is not ideal...
