MPs can often be heard saying "my constituents didn't vote to be poorer" which is code for "I think people in my constituency were conned by a red bus but as a superior intellect I will save the poor wretches from their foolishness". Then they wonder why they're despised

As it happens people make choices all the time that are not in their immediate financial interests. Plenty people give up high paying jobs for less stress or for a better work/life balance. Plenty of wealthy lefties vote for socialists and say they're ok paying more tax.
Some people just have different priorities and different values. And that's allowed if you're a well to do leftie - but not if you're from Sunderland or Rotherham - as though plebs simply aren't capable of thinking in those terms and should be second guessed by their betters.
There's plenty to say about the style of UK governance which is heavily influenced by EU managerialism from procurement through to planning - changing our relationship with national and local government. We may be materially wealthier, but things like community matter to people.
It's no sin to think that things have changed for the worse and we have less control and that we need a radical change of approach. One can easily conclude that slowing down the pace of change is healthier for a community.
Moreover, plenty of hard headed leavers don;t care if the brunt of Brexit falls on them personally. As much as they are prepared to accept the consequences of their choices, most trust in their own ability to adapt - and that of the nation as a whole.
We may lose various perks and benefits. It may mean a few things disappear from the supermarket shelves. It may mean a few inconveniences. But some people gladly make the trade in the hope of a more accountable government that remembers who it is supposed to serve.
Personally I don't take kindly to MPs second guessing my vote. We were all warned of the risks. The result was not an endorsement of leave message - rather it was a rejection of our political class who continue to condescend.
The metropolitan left establishment takes us for fools and that's why they believe we were taken in. The remain message ever since has been one of paternal authoritarianism believing we don't know what's good for us.
It is their arrogance that has made Brexit a culture war - and their willingness to piss on our votes is why there is no trust and no basis for compromise. This is the most talentless crop of MPs for a generation yet they presume to tell us we're too stupid to vote.
Moreover you have to admire the nerve. Most MPs are in on a pitiful mandate, some winning their seat by way of an accident of numbers or happening to land a safe seat. Who do these people think they are? The pomposity stinks. The arrogance is nauseating.
