And doubly before we dig in I want to make this disclaimer: I am in no way advocating for defrauding your clients. Telling them you can do X & then not being able to do X is fraud. You're accepting $ under false pretenses (IE: I can talk to dead people!) Now that's cleared up...

We're going to go down the rabbit hole of having systems. Every single reader has one. Whether they're a dowser, tarot card reader, crystal ball seer, etc; they ALWAYS have one system or another.

Why is that?

People want it. Simple as that, but there's more to it.
Clients want to know that whatever they're buying is going to Work. They don't want any doubt about it.

Which is more attractive to you?
"Use our proven 4 Step System of Total Life Transformation" vs "Here's some stuff to do to make changes."

System > Stuff any day.
Even if you're just selling a simple mindset shift; it has to be done with some sort of system.

It's the coach's equivalent to the Authority Placebo Effect. If it was just something you were making up it won't be nearly as powerful as a SYSTEM.

How do you know if systems were made up? If it's a system someone made it up! They're all made up!


All code words for "this is our [completely] made up system."
It helps improve client buy-in which is good, but it also helps the Reader, too.


Blame the system when something goes wrong! The reader isn't wrong; they're just telling you what the system is telling THEM. "Look man, I'm not saying you'll die alone, the SYSTEM is."
This avoids namecalling the client as a failure. Or the reader as a failure. It's just what the system is telling us, and how does that make you feel?

It's the perfect con. The system builds trust before you buy into it, and it preserves trust even when things go wrong.
"But it's /the system/! How can it be wrong?! It's been around for so long; I gotta work harder!"

That's the sinister application. But how can it help you, the ethical entrepreneur?

Have systems in place for the most common experiences your employees run into.
Here's an example from Disney; one of the world's best at customer service. They have invisible systems in place to ensure you have a great time and every single castmember knows what they are. When I was on the college internship I knew how to make most problems right instantly.
At strategic locations all over the Kilimanjaro Safaris attraction (where I worked) there were little slips that would be good for a popcorn, ice cream, or front-of-the-line privileges. If I saw someone who was having a problem, and that would fix it, it was on me to swoop in.
Kid drops their icecream? SWOOP! Drop their popcorn? SWOOP! Did a family member show up late and miss their group? SWOOP! FRONT OF THE LINE!

That was the system and it worked. Sometimes there would be problems too big for it, but man it's powerful knowing how it works.
Apply this in your own business. Are you a coach? Have your own proprietary system of [personal transformation or whatever] built on [personal expertise & experience here].

People will pay you tons for a system and peanuts for "whatever it is that you seem to do."
(Plus you'll have something to blame when things go wrong that isn't you or the client! Neato!)
