Important news for Rochester Artists!!

Excited to announce that the #Rochester Planning Commission has just approved the first of its kind Live Work Space in a residential zone. This has been on the books since 2003, but has rarely been applied.... 1/6
and has the potential to serve as a launching pad program for artists/crafters/makers who desire to live, work and (legally) sell their wares ... all under one roof! 2/6
We feel this outside the box application of the current ordinance will help create more live/work spaces and retain existing spaces for artists in the city. Space, location, and real estate are all primary concerns for Rochester artists. 3/6
This future initiative would create spaces that:
• are permanently dedicated to artists
• are located in high traffic neighborhood thoroughfares between commercial/industrial zones that are experiencing a stagnant or downward trend in quality of life... 4/6
• offer live/work spaces for rent and for purchase at affordable prices.

Artists help make Rochester a more livable city and drive a vibrant ecosystem of festivals, public art, galleries, performance spaces, not-for-profits, youth arts programs, and pop-up retail. 5/6
#Artists also function as small businesses by providing creative economy jobs and services for area residents. Without a doubt, work and endeavors of local artists dramatically enhance the quality of neighborhoods for both the people who live there and people who visit. 6/6
