OK, I don't want to boast, but I've cracked it. Brexit. The whole thing.
We need a deal with the EU that respects the result of the first referendum and can secure enough votes from all parties to pass through both Houses of Parliament. 1/n
And I've worked it all out. A sensible compromise. A way out of this mess. I call it #Brexitit.
Hear me out, read to the end. 2/n
Here's the deal we insist the EU accepts:
The EU is no longer sovereign over the UK, instead Parliament is sovereign. We make our own laws. 3/n
Instead of the EU making judgements on UK human rights law, we set up a separate Human Rights Court which enshrines British notions of human rights which the rest of the EU has to abide by. Call it the European Human Rights Court, or EHRC. 4/n
The EU allows the UK to propose legislation and regulations, making us rule makers not rule takers.
We negotiate opt-outs from key EU laws and regulations we object to. 5/n
We refuse to pay the "divorce bill" to leave the EU, and instead only pay existing funding/pension commitments.
We take the money we're currently spending on leaving the EU and spend it on the NHS.
We gain/retain a veto over Turkey joining the EU. 6/n
We gain a veto over the creation of an EU army.
We replace the EU council of ministers with an elected body.
We insist that EU commissioners can only be nominated by national governments, not the EU. 7/n
The EU stops blocking the UK from exporting to the rest of the world, and is forced to conduct trade deals with major players such as the USA, China and India.
We leave the free-travel Schengen area, introduce passport controls, and can exclude people from entering the UK. 8/n
We regain control over immigration, and recover the right to record when people enter or leave the country. 9/n
We stop EU freedom of movement so that we only admit people who can prove they have work within 3 months of arrival or they have money and private medical insurance to ensure they're not a drain on the UK. 10/n
We make the EU regulators work for us.
We remove the requirement for a hard border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. 11/n
We remove the EU ban on public investment, allowing us to improve infrastructure and public services degraded by years of under-investment and austerity.
We regain the right to build new housing for hard-pressed working people and armed forces veterans. 12/n
Bombay Mix will remain Bombay Mix, not Mumbai Mix.
Commission Regulation (EC) 2257/94 will be amended so that any shape of banana can be sold, whether they have "defects of shape" or not. 13/n
In other words, we insist on precisely the deal the UK currently has as an EU member.
But this way, the Leavers leave the Leave EU, and the Remainers remain in the Remain EU. 14/n
And it respects the original referendum by putting the feelings of the disenfranchised before the pedantic objections of the elite.
This is the Will Of The People. All the benefits, none of the drawbacks.
In addition, the size of UK passports will be defined not by the EU, but by an International Civil Aviation Organization. UK citizens will be allowed to choose what colour passport they want.
16/n
So, having forged this bridge to the future, anyone else want in? @mrjamesob? @RemainiacsCast? The brilliant thing about #Brexitit is that it's The People who decide the policy (subject to availability, your franchise may vary, some settling may occur during #Brexitit).

Before I hand the mic to people who have actual wisdom to impart, let me say this. Obviously, this sorry idiocy didn't begin four years ago, or forty, or even four hundred.
All those "it couldn't happen here", "let's hear from both sides" or "this isn't who we are" takes are, at best, ahistorical bullshit. This is precisely what the USA (a nation I love, but am not of) is and has been, for most of its history.
