solid writeup from @leechilcote on the state of Uptown, the university circle-area development here in Cleveland, and its failure to find identity or escape from the campus-area trend of homogenizing business to fast-causal eateries…
@leechilcote only take issue with a few points:

-several of the restaurants ARE locally owned - for instance, the fantastic Otani Noodle, NuJoy, and Phusion Cafe, all of which serve much-needed types of authentic east asian food (and are owned by east asian operators)
-the bit about parking is mega inaccurate. the parking situation (elimination of free lots, forcing ppl to pay via smart phone in some lots) has actively and significantly worsened in a way that will just work further against making uptown a destination.
those two points aside, this article does an excellent job of viewing uptown from the perspective of its powerholders and business owners, as well as non-student residents.
