One nation under GOD, indivisible and justice for all, America, America GOD sheds his grace on thee. As a country in our founding documents we have struggled to answer the question, what makes someone American?what makes a person an American? why are they American and why not?
Is it based on who decides, where one is born or is it a deeper commitment to a specific set of ideas and what ideas would that be.
We are divided today on that question, can a person be a Muslim-American or an African-American
Does putting a hyphen in, make them less American. My ancestors came from England am I an English-American. Is Prince Esterbrooks the very man that was “first in the fight” at the revolutionary war battle of Lexington and was seriously wounded in that fight was he an American
does his valor make him so, when his children would be salves and 3/5 human
Would a child brought here at age 10 by parents seeking work and a better life, this child who went on to die in Afghanistan fighting for America’s safety,
your safety your children’s safety
is he American. If he would have lived should we have deport him, his parents?
Would a man of means, who as many did, refuse to answer the call to arms and avoid the draft by lying or fleeing are these men Americans is their cowardice or moral objections disqualifying
are they now not American
Would a man that ridicules, insults or threatens another man for nothing but their religious believes, is he an American, In a land that has religious freedom at it’s very heart could we, should we, count him as an American
The American ideal is something I pray we all strive for. Their are heroes and villains of all races and religions. Their are great Americans and their are evil Americans. As a people do the documents that founded our country say we are a people of tolerance and acceptance.
If I don’t agree with you and you don’t agree with me, can we both be Americans, shouldn’t Americans tolerant and accept that, that gives a person life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. As Americans are we not capable of
who wish to join us as Americans with dignity and respect, When we decide what an American is should we decide based solely on which side of the wall you come from, or should we look for more
