The One Where I Am Mansplained To About Why I Am Mistaken For A Non-Doctor (I Need to Speak Up)
I have a portion of one of my lectures where I describe how many mentions it takes for patients to reliably get that I am a doctor (developed after about 10 years of trial and error, but without consulting a single man who has never had to think about this).
The answer is: 3 verbal cues and 2 visual cues.

On entry: “Hi, I’m DOCTOR Choo. [Holding out my DOCTOR badge.] I’ll be your DOCTOR today.”

Before exiting: “Just a reminder - my name is DOCTOR Choo” [as I write “Dr. Choo” on the white board]
