So, I was wandering through the graveyard of St Marys church in Staines, and a man comes out of the door. I said hello, and noted that despite being born and raised here, I had never been inside the church. So he invited me to join him for a tour. His demeanour seemed familiar…
…and he mentioned that he lives in Hampton, but is tending for a sick friend here in Staines. "Oh, I went to school in Hampton!" — "When?" — "1982-89". He paused, stunned—& introduced himself by name: it turns out he was my physics teacher, whom I had not seen for over 30 years.
Inside the church is a staines glass window that commemorates the dead of the Papa India air disaster in 1972. The flight crash landed only a few hundred metres from where I live. There is also a commemorative plaque in the park where I played as a kid. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_E…
