I love that Rio Tinto and BHP have backed the Uluru Statement from the Heart, but as a (thankfully former) teacher of Corporate Law, it's worth noting that the companies couldn't do this unless they saw profit for shareholders in making those public announcements.
I'm not sure whether that is (a) a sign that they think the winds of change in are blowing, or (b) a sign that they think negotiating future ILUAs will be easier if they arrive with a history of brown washing (if that can be a term... Greenwashing but for ATSI folk).
I wish it was (a), but I think it's more likely (b). While I'm really glad they are putting money into what is a necessary reformulation of the Australian Constitution, I'm worried after hearing the equivocation that Rio's boss had on @PatsKarvelas's show this evening.
