Incoming warnings short thread

1) I’ll be talking about my niece’s death candidly, so consider this a 1st blanket trigger warning.

2) I’ll lock this account late tonight to early tomorrow morning. If you follow me now, you’ll still see me. How is not good for new ppl.
3) If you want a copy of any of my threads, here is the lastest MASTER LIST. Some of them have unrolled narratives via thread reader app, usually at the bottom of the thread. Some don’t. Sorry. Follow those links and preserve them.

write.as/czedwards/b-in…
4) That’s a risk of voluntarily locking my account: threadreader loses access. As time permits, I’ve been re-creating those threads in other media & I have them in draft form, but it’s when I have time. Nature of the internet, friends: It’s ephemeral.

(I meant NOW in 1 not how)
5) TW: I will be talking about the realities of a tragedy in a dysfunctional family. Mine is... okay dysfunctional, but only because we avoid the hell out of each other. My niece’s father’s family... they’ve got ALL the fuckery & they roll in it, like mud day at the shit spa.
6) which is another reason for lock: I can say the shit here, or I can say it to their faces. Sometimes I’ll do the latter, but I’m good at picking my battles. This is not me begging for attention, it’s me shouting into the void. So I don’t shout into faces.
7) I’m not going to Georgia jail. REALLY. So, hey, if you can reality check me and confirm “yeah, they’re fucked up!” That’s cool. Glad to have you. If you’re gonna defend the gun-nut, gold-bugging, survivalist, Beck-Jones Magat who cheated on my sister & blamed it on PTSD...
8) or the controlling, covert-incestuous, hypocritical, narcissistic, abusive Magat shits who raised him... No. Just fucking no. They got defensiveness ALL DOWN for themselves.

And no benefit of doubt, because they are the reason my niece was on that ATV.
9) I get that they’re grieving. They deserve to be grieving. They deserve to be sorry. (Which they won’t be, they’ll be looking for anyone to blame but themselves.) I’ll explain more after I lock. But... yeah.
10) And I’m not pulling punches here, because family dynamics get people hurt. In this case? A bad marriage lasted too long. The controlling partner wore the other into compliance & forced her into a place she didn’t want. He put his desires over everyone else’s needs & rights.
11) Being clear: the warning signs of *potential* danger were clear YEARS ago. There are hundreds of small moments where a minor Turn Left means my niece is in school today. If I can get people to recognize those moments and consider the possible futures, maybe behavior changes.
12) if nothing else? Giving examples of how to be kinder and more thoughtful maybe increases the net good in the world.

(Unfortunately, retrospect & learning from the devastation is the only way to never again make that mistake.)
13) I will miss her every day like a fire in my soul. And if talking about how she came to be, and what caused her death helps prevent even a little emotional abuse & manipulation (and gets helmets on heads) then...

It’s not worth her life, but it’s what we have.
Brooke @ 2.
