”During the 110th Congress (2007-2008), Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Minority Leader John Boehner created a task force to look into operating an “outside” ethics-enforcement entity.” fas.org/sgp/crs/misc/R…
They had the choice to make the OEC a fully independent investigative body or keep it within the confines of Congress. Guess which one they chose? 🙄
Wanting to keep lapses in ethics within the purview of the Congress, they afforded this OCE with subpoena power & an ability to “pay witnesses.” fas.org/sgp/crs/misc/R…
@TomFitton of @JudicialWatch was there to testify in favor a wholly independent council since Congress has proven they cannot be trusted to judge their colleagues, though they have a Constitutional duty to uphold the rules under which they operate.
So I wonder what they’ve dug up over the years? Well, lets have a look.
“Representative Maxine Waters made a request in September 2008 to then Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson that Treasury Department officials meet with representatives from the National Bankers Association. A meeting was in fact granted shortly thereafter.
”However, at the meeting, and in the follow-up activity that occurred through Representative Waters' Congressional office, the discussion centered on a single bank--OneUnited. Representative Waters's husband had been a board member of OneUnited”
“At the time of the meeting, he was a stock holder of the bank. Representative Waters' conduct may have violated House Rule 23, clause 3 (by permitting compensation to accrue to her beneficial interest) and House precedent regarding conflicts of interest.

OCE Recommendation...
“On September 21, 2012, the Committee adopted a report determining that the evidence does not establish that Representative Waters violated House rules.” Well, that’s a surprise, huh?
Apparently, it was all the staffer’s fault! “The Committee ssued a letter of reproval to Rep Waters' Chief of Staff, Mikael Moore, for taking certain actions on behalf of OneUnited when he knew, or should have known, of Representative Waters' personal financial obligation.”
Here’s another favorite, #JohnConyers “Representative Conyers may have paid compensation to his Chief of Staff Cynthia Martin during a time when the services she performed were not commensurate with her level of compensation.”
“If Representative Conyers provided a member of his congressional staff with compensation that was not commensurate with the work she performed, then he may have violated House rules and standards of conduct”
So....what was he paying her for? Not to worry, constituents. I’m sure your hard-earned tax dollars were not going towards hush money or flat-out prostitution.
Whoa👉🤨“In May 2013, Rep Jackson Lee traveled to Baku, Azerbaijan.” I’m not the expert on geography @RepMaxineWaters is, but isn’t that near #Iran & #Russia? The travel was disclosed to the Committee on Ethics as funded and sponsored solely by a single private, nonprofit source.
“However, various additional entities that were not disclosed to the Committee on Ethics appear to have been funders or organizers, or both, of the trip. Some of these additional entities are prohibited by House rules & regulations, standards of conduct & federal law
impermissible gift of travel proscribed by House rules and regulations, standards of conduct, and federal law.

Committee Conclusion

On July 31, 2015, the Committee on Ethics released
the OCE report regarding Rep. Jackson Lee but not the findings.

Public Disclosure
So #JacksonLee accepted a vacay in Turkey to meet with various private, political & military agents in Turkey regarding oil & energy? How are these representatives putting American interests first when they’re peddling “power” abroad? This is shameful. Shameful!
and what was her punishment, I wonder? oce.house.gov/sites/congress…
Well, we’ll never know because it wasn’t released “not appropriate for release because... of concern that release might compromise any inquiry by the Department of Justice.” So our Houston Rep was referred to the DOJ. Good to know.
Put aside late term abortion, ease up on the border wall because these shining examples of humanity, compassion & morality are on the job & @potus is not to be trusted🙄Let’s go right to #TermLimits then make decisions from there.
Oh, wait! It gets better! Look what opened up just about the time Sheila Jackson Lee & Fregory Meeks went to visit the oil & energy gurus in Turkey.... whoa! It’s #MuhRussia gazprom.com/projects/turk-…
“TurkStream will substantially enhance the reliability of gas supply to Turkey, as well as to southern and southeastern Europe

Turkey is one of the largest consumers of Russian gas. At present, Russia supplies gas to Turkey via the Blue Stream and Trans-Balkan gas pipelines.”
So, wait..🤨Obama sends billions to Iran. And a magnificent pipeline to transport #Russian oil opens up, and our Congressmen & women accept illegal visits to Azerbaijan to meet with oil gurus & they’re referred to the DOJ & it’s no big deal, right. @almostjingo @DawsonSField
Obama transferred a pallet of cash in August & the pipeline is inked months later. Obama planned to be the richest president in history, if you’ll remember. I wonder how Jackson Lee & Meeks. It’s on American oil & energy bills during that period? 🤔
