Inputs.. Whatsapp - -by a IAF Pilot.

In the year 2009, two of my Sqn QFIs were killed in a HPT- 32 crash. This particular AC is a trainer AC and was manufactured and maintained by HAL.
The AC had serious issues of Engine cut in air and ground due to faulty modification of fuel pumps which was undertaken by HAL. In that particular year we had 17 engine cuts in air and all 17 times it was recovered safely by the QFIs.
Some of these incidents were reported & some were not.
Generally we all used 2 be a little apprehensive of engine cut immediately after take off, as the only option was 2 force land on the clear ground & with rapid real estate boom and construction there was no clear land left.
On that particular day same thing happened. I was supposed to fly a practice sortie with my friend Ritin. But at the last moment he requested that he will fly Chaturvedi first, as he was a new QFI who had just joined AFA.
Chaturvedi being my Foxtrot Sqn type in NDA, I agreed.
They both died in crash that day.

The SASO visited us same day.

All the 55 QFIs present their , had a one to one meeting with him and all in one tone refused to fly this AC anymore.

Lot of pressure techniques were used but we did not budge.
Finally with support of our own Ajinkyan Air Chief, who himself was convinced fought this battle with MOD and HPT 32 was decommissioned. Within six months new trainer ac PC 7 was commissioned.

But it all started with saying 'NO'. That time it was construed as Mutiny by many.
But in the end we all won over the giant, lethargic, unprofessional HAL.

RIP Ritin and Chaturvedi.
RIP Abrol and Negi 🙏🙏🙏
