Single white child is kidnapped & it makes national news as every parent imagines horror of unimaginable - inconceivable pain those parents must be going thru. Trump admin kidnaps 1000s of children & says it's not worth trying to return them. GOP cares not a whit. Ultimate racism
The racism that permits this is extreme - it says not only do we not care about trauma inflicted on brown children, we also don't believe the parents truly suffer. It's the kind of racism that says non-white parents don't feel the way white parents would - they're less than human
It's the kind of extreme racism that equates non-whites with animals & believes they don't have same feelings for their children that white parents do. It's the kind of racism that allowed whites to sell a slave's children & pretend their pain was insignificant.
You see this racism in the way the right talks about migrants - that they're terrible parents for sending or taking kids on this journey in 1st place. The right has no empathy & cannot imagine themselves in same situation because they don't feel human connection to refugees.
What's happening is a crime against humanity & deserves to be addressed by international community. Lives are forever ruined. Families are torn apart. Suffering is unimaginable, which may be why even the left can't stay focused on it. It's too horrible to think about, but we must
We must put same intense national effort into reuniting these children with their families as we do for every kidnapped child. Can you imagine FBI saying "it's a burden" & refusing to look for kidnapped child? That's what Trump admin says about reuniting the children THEY TOOK.
We must also beware. This kind of extreme racism is the kind that leads to genocide. Remember, Holocaust didn't begin with gas chambers. It began with extreme racism that equated Jews with vermin, dehumanized them, made them "other" & less-than-human.

Hitler convinced Germans they needed to be afraid of Jews. He used an imaginary global conspiracy by Jews against Germany & rest of world. Trump invents an invasion by migrants on the border - supposedly massive caravans coming to do us harm. He stokes fear like Hitler did.
Trump actually uses same imaginary conspiracy Hitler used - anti-Semitic fear of "globalists" (aka Jews) who allegedly control banking & media. He combines this with stoking fear of migrants by implying Soros (a Jew) pays for these caravans to come. He uses multiple racist tropes
Racism is powerful enough to kill, powerful enough to cause the fearful to commit genocide. We mustn't ignore the separated children & we also mustn't believe it will stop there. It won't - unless we do something.
I'll add that Trump's racist rhetoric has ALREADY killed. The man who massacred Jews in synagogue in Philadelphia was inspired by Trump's claim (made in rally) Jews were funding caravans. He believed Jews were paying migrants to come to slaughter whites. vox.com/2018/10/29/180…
We also know AT LEAST 2 children & 22 adults have died in detention. This is unlikely to be true number. Nielsen admitted in House hearing SHE DIDN'T KNOW THE NUMBER. Just as true number of kids in custody keeps rising, I won't be surprised if we learn deaths are much higher too.
What's most disturbing about what Trump admin did is they planned it from beginning. It's not mere incompetence that kept them from keeping records to later reunite families. They've basically admitted they never planned to reunite families at all - shows utmost disdain & cruelty
Ripping children from their mother's arms. Lying to mothers & telling them their kids were only being taken to get a bath. Taunting mothers, mocking them, telling them they'd never see their children again. If you can be this cruel, what can't you do?
Some say we shouldn't be comparing Trump to Hitler - that it's taking things too far. But HISTORIANS are now comparing Trump to Hitler. Experts on authoritarianism are warning us. These are the experts on Hitler & if they're making these connections, it's time to be concerned.
