Has a few followers ask what the new brouhaha regarding @authorkayn & co was about.

There's a giant mess but these screen caps here sum up the gist of a lot of it.

Chick mocks WOC for using lingo unique to black community, then insults her intelligence. Friends join in.
Did anyone point out that AAVE is a dialect unique to the black community?

Yep. Several times.

One even offered a handy resource for @authorkayn to educate herself.

I mean, let's face it. The complexity of racism & racial bias requires that those of us who want to be allies be *constantly* open to viewing things in a new light.

This could have easily ended in a learning experience and just...ended.
When I first started in publishing, started hanging out online, I didn't understand the inherent harm I caused in saying "I don't see color."

My *intent* was that a person's actions are how I take his/her measure.
But for POC, the 'color' isn't just their skin. It's culture, life, music, a history of pain & suffering, an ongoing struggle with oppression.

And when you say, "I don't see color," you're really saying, "I don't see you."

Monica Jackson helped me see this.
A strong, powerful voice in the black romance community, she pushed the publishing community to be better, to do better.

We butted heads often. I learned a lot from her. And I miss her.
She's no longer with us & damn...SOME of you should be thanking God because she would EAT YOU ALIVE over this shit.

Bad enough people speaking AAVE got mocked.

And it was *people*.

Those insults to Darien? She's not the only person who uses AAVE.
And these snide comments by @authorkayn & co?

Well, they paint a picture.
Plus...@authorkayn's response to @meganaderr when the HuffPo article was offered...

And the insults on intelligence weren't just one-offs.
I wonder if @authorkayn is still amused.

I wonder if the various readers, editors, agents & publishers seeing this display are amused.
@authorkayn has claimed to be Native American.

If so, she is probably aware of the slow genocide brought upon NAs, cultural destruction...

kids put into schools where they couldn't wear traditional garb
Boys forced to cut hair

More, of course.

But one thing stands out
What is it?

Think. Think. Think.
Black slave brought from Africa?

They were also denied their traditions, punished for speaking their languages, forbidden to use traditional African names.

Now...consider this.
Is a *language* racist? Nah.

But denying ethnic groups their own dialects?
