The best outcome is for your candidate to win. But if it looks like that may not happen, u need to minimise making a Wasted vote. In electoral systems, a wasted vote is any vote which is not for an elected candidate or, more broadly, a vote that does not help to elect a candidate
Instead, I will advocate TACTICAL Voting. Tactical voting is when a voter supports candidate other than his sincere preference in order to prevent an undesirable outcome. In most cases it means voting for d candidate u think has a chance of winning, not necessarily your favourite
Usually, if ur preferred candidate is Not in the TOP 2 & also more than 10% behind 2nd place 24hrs to election day; u should consider Tactical Voting; otherwise u may end up with Wasted vote. Our choices are on a spectrum. So candidates should fit into your range of acceptability
Tactical voting is mainly seen in explanations of what is known as d voting context model of voting behaviour, in which voting decisions are seen to vary depending on the nature of the election & circumstances surrounding that election. If A LOT is at stake, then who wins matters
Voters might vote for their 2nd favourite candidate. They may do this if they know that their favourite is likely to lose, and they are keen to spoil the chances of another candidate. When faced with a nation on the BRINK, Who wins matters, so vote Tactically & not Idealistically
It is a known tactic worldwide for Incumbents to sponsor opposition candidates (who they know will never win) in order to dilute the votes of those against them. This will defuse opposition into dozens of Parties while incumbents keep their loyal voters to coast to easy victory.
The Voters therefore also need to be sophisticated. Tactical voting can also mean voting for your preferred candidates REGARDLESS of the Party. This could mean voting for 2-3 different parties. This is not a problem in societies whose political parties are devoid of Ideology.
So, Tactical voting is supporting a party that is not your 1st choice but which is thought to have a better chance of victory in an election. Tactical votes are often cast in opposition to another party that the voter dislikes more. It is vital in our kind of electoral system
You must never vote Tactically if your preferred candidate is in the first or second position in the polls. But if your candidate is more than 10% point behind the second place person, then tactical voting can be considered.
Tactical voting usually happens less than expected. Since a certain proportion of people will always vote for their preferred party anyway — being either unaware of or indifferent to its chances of winning — the scope for successful tactical voting is normally quite limited
In a perfect world, we could vote for whichever party promised policies that we most closely align with, and everyone's votes would have the same impact, but First Past The Post system means that your vote can count for very little if you live in a State or...
...zone in which your least preferred candidate/party is popular. Your vote needs to be meaningful. Even if ur Tactical party cannot win your State, it still needs 25% of the vote cast to satisfy constitutional spread requirement.
I am not telling u who to vote for, but just showing how to give ur vote d best possible impact. Think Tactically. Vote tactically even if u hold your nose doing it. In this regard, a vote for either PDP or APC will be Tactical if u support any of the other over 90 parties. -END
