Aw gee. Albert Finney has passed over at 82.

Will do my yearly viewing of "Miller's Crossing" now in his honor.

His version of "A Christmas Carol", called "Scrooge" is still my favorite Christmas movie.

🎶Ooohhh Danny Boooooy
the pipes...the pipes are CALLING
from glen to glen
and down the MOUNTAINSIDE
the summer's gone, and all th' roses are falling
'tis you must go, and I, I must bide

But come ye back when summers in the meadow...🎶

You know what one of the best things about Miller's Crossing is? [besides all the great acting in it?]

It's the theme song.

First listen carefully to what actor Mike Starr sings in this scene. It's from an Italian opera, 'Ghirlandeina Veta Mia'

Now listen to the Miller's Crossing main theme and be amazed at what Carter Burwell did here. He took *ITALIAN* opera and set it to *IRISH*-sounding synthesizers and flutes. The organ sounds almost like bagpipes.

What's "Miller's Crossing" about? It's about a conflict between ITALIAN and IRISH mobsters.

Isn't that amazing?
