Which makes this the start of #ElRobot s1e02, Ones and Zeroes.
One of three S1 eps directed by Esmail.
Start right with an absurd villain monologue from Tyrrell.
And Esmail immediately starts using his trademark shots of people low in the frame.
The show isn't itself yet but it's way closer to feeling like it just off of the visual grammar.
I love the casual weirdness of Sutherland. A great minor character.
Ah, the Elliot wipedown ritual. I love the fire in the microwave after.
Poor Gideon.
The first appearance of the Gentle Massacre of the Bourgeois mask. It's a good design. Hits V for Vendetta and Monopoly Man in the same image.
I love Cisco's attempt at hawking a hip hop CD.
Darlene is played with compelling openness. Masking her familiarity with him in manic punky nightmare girl is a good feint. But there's not a dishonest line or delivery.
Trenton is obviously the best thing about this hacker group from her first shot.
Are you a one or a zero would be better as a Peter Thiel reference.
The use of popcorn in Mr. Robot's monologue is nice setup.
Fernando is unsettling from the get go. While also being another efficient Esmail douchebag.
Elliot means "Jehovah is God." For Vera's reference.
Esmail is a stunning observer of toxic masculinity.
The lack of further characters like Shayla is a painful vacancy in the show's future perspectives.
The anticapitalist monologue as Vera is attested is good. It's good to have these perspectives explicitly presented by the good guys.
How has @_Jack_Graham_ not watched this? Jack we should podcast this show.
I love that Ollie can't bring himself/think of just telling Angela she should visit Elliot.
The abuse of Elliot by Mr. Robot is so horrifying. I think the most brilliantly cruel use of the Tyler Durden concept in anything.
Christian Slater has such a solid understanding of his job here. He's delightfully unhinged without being overpowering.
Episode 3 in a bit.
