OK. Got a bit sidetracked, but sitting down to do #ElRobot for @whoismrrobot eps1.4_3xpl0its.wmv
This is less flashy than the previous episode, but with it forms a 1-2 punch that's clearly where the show announces that it is going to be an extraordinary trip.
Opening on Vera emphasizes his unexpected importance.
Indeed he gets the title card.
The basic structure of this, though, and why this is so effortlessly solid is a good ol fashioned heist.
They can't quite figure out how good they want Elliot to be at social exploits.
Ollie getting dumped is so nice. Fuck Ollie.
The treatment of Bill Harper is so cruel and brilliant. The show is wise to come back to it like it does as a source of guilt. It's so utterly awful to watch.
I do love the text to Trudy. "It's what we always feared."
Tyrell's arrival is cheap.
It's interesting that the non Esmail directors are starting to use his trademark shots.
"Obamacare" is cute of Shayla.
Tyrell you are a fucking trashfire.
Tyrell, amusingly, is Jill's favorite character.
Tyrell's power play on Elliot is the same basic one he used on Bill. Clever.
Angela's dad dragging Ollie is an amusing way to introduce him.
Clumsy to have Tyrell do two plots here.
Especially given how contrived his Steel Mountain appearance is.
First mention of Whiterose. Darlene's arrogance in invoking her is fun in hindsight.
I appreciate having Tyrell break upon someone as utterly average as Scott Knowles.
It's not entirely clear why Joanna bothers with Tyrell.
The Tyrell/Sharon bathroom scene is so fucking sleazy. I think I love it.
Mr. Robot dealing directly with Darlene is an interesting choice.
And then tagging out for Elliot.
Darlene and Elliot are so great. S1 is really improved when you know her background.
And then the cliffhanger. Which. Well, that's next thread.
Although using Angela as the final shot is cool.
Ok. Next thread in a bit. @threadreaderapp unroll
