Breaking: Large terrorist attack in #India. More than 40 Indian Reserve Police Force personnel were killed and many others injured when Pakistani backed terrorists targeted a convoy with a car bomb at Awantipora in Jammu and Kashmir's today, ndtv.com/india-news/15-…
Reports suggested that the vehicle used by the terrorists was a Mahindra Scorpio carrying more than 350 kg of explosives in what is the worst attack ever on security personnel in the state.
Sources said that terrorists triggered the car bomb while 78 vehicles with over 2,500 reserve police men were on the Srinagar-Jammu highway. The stretch on which the incident occurred had been sanitized in the morning & authorities called it a serious breach of security.
Pictures showed charred remains of vehicles & body parts littered across the highway, alongside blue military buses. Official sources said that the attack was carried out by Adil Ahmad Dar, alias "Waqas Commando". A resident of Kakapora that joined the terror group last year.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted that the sacrifices will not go in vain. "The attack on CRPF personnel in Pulwama is despicable. I strongly condemn this dastardly attack. The sacrifices of our brave security personnel shall not go in vain.
Deep anger in #India after Pakistani backed terrorists killed more than 40 reserve police officers. Some form of military retaliation against Pakistan is being discussed. 👍💪🇮🇳Jai Hind🇮🇳💪👍 Hit them hard!
India today withdrew the most favored status condition from Pakistan, this means unfavorable trade terms for Pakistan.
I'll be arriving to India on Monday to attend the Aero India Show & Exhibition. Looks like I may end up getting more than what I bargained for considering all the talk of military retaliation.
Most Favored Nation Status is actually the correct term.
#India's PM Narendra Modi said "the public's blood is boiling, the terrorists will pay a heavy price, they made a big mistake". Increased talk of military retaliation against Pakistan. The Indian military has been given full freedom to act.

-US Stands solidly with India
-Strongly condemn the attack that took place in Pulwama
-Perpetrators and their backers should be held accountable
At this point, it's a virtual certainty that there will be a significant #Indian military retaliation against #Pakistan since Pakistan's complicity in the terrorist attack is a certainty. Strong #US & international support for India. Only #China is backing Pakistan.
#US State Dept. issues a fresh travel advisory for #Pakistan.

On Thursday, Singh had condemned the attack in strong words, saying that his "blood boils at the spineless and cowardly attacks". Tweeting about the attack, he promised that "every drop of our soldier’s blood will be avenged".
The 42 Indian soldiers martyred in a massive terrorist attack perpetrated by a Pakistani backed terrorist group. Indian military retaliation against Pakistan is a virtual certainty. 💪👍🇮🇳👍💪
#BREAKING: Heavy clashes have broken out between the Indian & Pakistani armies along their borders according to some reports
Its not clear at this point how significant these clashes are; the Indian & Pakistani armies routinely trade artillery fire at the border. Official Indian army sources only reported Pakistani cease fire violations. Some sources mentioned heavy clashes, we need more confirmation
Apparently, the reports of heavy clashes between the Indian & Pakistani armies are related to Pakistani shelling of Indian army positions (which has been reported as Pak cease fire violations) and the Indian army response. Not clear how heavy or widespread that fighting is.
Kashmir attack: #India says #Pakistan had 'direct hand' in deadly convoy strike - India said there was "incontrovertible evidence" that Pakistan had a "direct hand" in a bomb attack on a convoy that killed at least 40 people in Kashmir. cnn.com/2019/02/15/asi…
After a Cabinet meeting on Friday, Minister Arun Jaitley said that India would initiate "all possible diplomatic steps" to "ensure the complete isolation from the international community of Pakistan, of which incontrovertible evidence is available of having a direct hand"
Jaitley added that India would downgrade diplomatic relations by withdrawing its "most favored nation status" to Pakistan. Thursday's attack on a convoy of Indian soldiers killed 40 & wounded five, said M. Dhinakaran, deputy inspector general of the Central Reserve Police Force.
The Indian government has blamed Pakistan-based terrorist organization Jaish-e-Mohammed for the attack. On Friday, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a warning to terrorist groups, saying that the "the blood of the people is boiling."
"We demand that Pakistan stop supporting terrorists and terror groups operating from their territory and dismantle the infrastructure operated by terrorist outfits to launch attacks in other countries," India's Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
"I want to tell the terrorist organizations & their supporters that have made a huge mistake. They will have to pay a very heavy cost for this. I give assurance to the nation that the forces behind the attack, the culprits behind this attack -- they will definitely be punished."
Jaish-e-Mohammed, which translates to the Army of the Prophet Mohammed, is a Pakistan-based group that operates on both sides of the border of the disputed state and seeks to unite the Indian-controlled area of Kashmir with Pakistan.
The group was listed as a terrorist organization by the US State Department in 2001, but the effort to include its leader, Masood Azhar, as an "internationally designated terrorist" at the United Nations was vetoed by China in 2017.
Modi has taken a stronger stand toward terrorism in the state since he came to power almost five years ago. In 2018, 253 terrorists were killed by Indian security forces -- more than double the number of terrorists killed in 2015, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The latest attack comes more than two years after armed militants entered an army base in the garrison town of Uri, about 63 miles (102 kilometers) from Srinagar -- killing at least 18.
Why Kashmir attack could spark a military confrontation in South Asia - "It was a cold-blooded terrorist attack, conducted by militants from across the border, trained and funded by the proxy network sustained by Pakistan" 👎🇵🇰👎 dw.com/en/why-kashmir…
At least 41 Indian paramilitary troops were killed on Thursday in a suicide bombing in the Pulwama district of India's Kashmir. The Pakistan-based militant group Jaish-e-Mohammed, which translates as "The Army of Mohammed," claimed responsibility for the deadly attack.
It was not the first time that the Islamist group allegedly perpetrated an attack in the Indian part of Kashmir, although the Thursday assault was the deadliest in the disputed region.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the attack as "bastardly," while other Indian officials said they have "incontrovertible evidence" that Islamabad had "a direct hand" in the bombing. They have vowed a harsh response to the attack.
The bombing is a huge setback to the already turbulent India-Pakistan ties. The two nations have thorny relations and fought three full-fledged wars, two of them over the disputed Kashmir region. India blames Pakistan for supporting Islamist terror attacks on India.
There is no doubt that Pakistan was behind the latest Kashmir attack. Islamabad is waging "asymmetrical war" against India. "It was a cold-blooded terrorist attack, conducted by militants from across the border, trained & funded by the proxy network sustained by Pakistan"
Thursday attack could force India to react militarily and target militants' sanctuaries on the Pakistani side of the border. "After the attack, it can't be business as usual for New Delhi," the foreign policy and security analyst said.
With India set to hold elections by May, the Modi government will be under pressure to show that it's acting tough on Pakistan. "The prime minister will have to respond. Otherwise, he will appear weak & therefore all bets are off. I suspect this is bigger than we think it is."
"China's role in this is not difficult to understand. Last year, Beijing blocked an attempt to declare Masood a terrorist. China considers India its enemy," Bhat said. But Gilani believes it would be hard for China to ignore the latest attack on Indian paramilitary personnel.
Siegfried O. Wolf, an expert at the Brussels' South Asia Democratic Forum, says China is "indirectly" encouraging Pakistan. Experts say China's response to Jaish-e-Mohammed and its leader would be crucial when it came to a possible international action against Kashmiri militants.
There are growing calls in India to take actions against these groups. Indians have also taken to social media to vent their fury & call for swift retribution against Pakistan. But the consequences of any unilateral action by India could be devastating for regional peace
First information of Indian casualties at the Line of Control between India & Pakistan. One Army soldier Martyred, apparently from artillery fire. 🙏RIP🙏 👍💪🇮🇳Jai Hind🇮🇳💪👍 Info from: @HinduWolverine
Sorry, IED blast, not artillery fire, need to wait for more specific details. This is not good. I think the government is probably playing down what's going on at the Line of Control to not inflame flames any further.
Pulwama attack: How #China blocked #India from listing JeM chief Azhar as ‘global terrorist’ - Delhi’s attempts to list him at the UNSC have been repeatedly blocked by China. 👎🇨🇳👎 China has Indian blood in its hands indianexpress.com/article/explai…
With Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad having claimed responsibility for the Pulwama terrorist attack Thursday, the focus is back on Jaish chief Maulana Masood Azhar and Delhi’s failed attempt to list him as a “global terrorist” at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
Azhar was released by the Vajpayee government in Dec 1999, along with Mushtaq Ahmed Zargar & Omar Sheikh, in exchange for the release of the passengers of the hijacked Indian Airlines flight IC-814. Delhi’s attempts to list him at the UNSC have been repeatedly blocked by China.
The most recent effort began after India blamed Jaish for the attack on the Indian Air Force base in Pathankot on January 2, 2016. India put forward a proposal in February 2016 to designate Azhar as a terrorist under the aegis of the UNSC 1267 committee.
China intervened at Pakistan’s behest and placed a technical hold on India’s move in March 2016, and again in October 2016. It subsequently used its veto power to block the proposal in December 2016, a day before the technical hold ended.
China again employed a technical hold & blocked a proposal put forward by the US, UK & France on January 19, 2017 to designate Azhar as a terrorist. India started pushing for Azhar’s listing since 2008, after the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks & even then China put a technical hold.
Vivek Katju, former India diplomat, “After today’s attack, the Chinese prevarication on Masood Azhar reveals their dichotomous approach on terrorism, and it once again demonstrates that when it comes to terrorism, the Pakistani tail wags the Chinese dog.”
With India and China agreeing on a reset of the relationship at the Wuhan summit in April 2018, there has not been any headway in the Chinese roadblock to Azhar’s listing over the last 10 months.
Have to admit that the #American way of dealing with these terrorists, to blast them from a drone anywhere in the world, anywhere they may be, it's what works. Can't be nice or soft with there type of people. India goes the legal way & China protects them. Not ok. @mouse458

After terrorist attack: #India's military puts all cards on the table - The firepower demonstration is scheduled to go ahead now but other option range from upping the ante on the Line of Control (LoC) with punishing artillery fire to cross border. economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/defence/a…
Even as India decides on military options for punitive action against supporters of the terror attack in Pulwama, Pakistan will be mindful that close to 150 combat aircraft are already deployed and ready for action on the western front.
The aircraft, which range from the Jaguar deep penetration strike aircraft to the Mirage 2000 multi-role jets and early warning assets, are deployed for a show of air power at the Vayu Shakti exercise that was planned months in advance but are fully prepped for operations.
The firepower demonstration is scheduled to go ahead now but other options range from upping the ante on the Line of Control with punishing artillery fire to precise missile attacks & ground operations to take back enclaves used by Pakistani forces to push terrorists into India.
“Only when the Pakistani military gets affected will it believe that pushing terrorism is not worth it. Hitting terror camps is messaging but the real pressure has to come upon the Pakistani army itself,” Lt Gen Hooda, the former Northern Army Commander, said.
While aerial strikes or Brahmos missile attack against precise targets is an option, increasing pressure along the LoC is a possible step to convey intent. Sources say that there already has been a sustained high stakes cross-border duel along the LoC in the Rajouri-Poonch sector
The most key targets at the LoC is the Haji Pir pass that connects the towns of Poonch & Uri. The heavily guarded bulge was captured by Indian forces in the 1965 war but was returned as part of the post-war pact & still haunts the army as its used extensively to push terrorist in
An #Indian Army Major from the Corps of Engineers was killed and a soldier injured today while defusing an improvised explosive device at Nowshera sector in Jammu & Kashmir's Rajouri. The explosive had been planted by intruders from Pakistan 1.5 km inside the Line of Control.
This was the second IED attack along the Line of Control in the same sector since January. On January 11, two Army personnel, including a major, were killed in Nowshera.
Shock, fury ripple across #India following Kashmir terror attack - The suicide car-bomb attack that killed over 40 paramilitary police has widowed & orphaned many – and generated nationwide rage against the perpetrators asiatimes.com/2019/02/articl…
Far beyond political chambers, the attack’s aftershocks were felt in villages nationwide. As news of the deaths of soldiers from more than 16 states reached their respective districts, anguished Indians commiserated – and took to the streets in protest.
Indians’ fury against Pakistan & the terrorists who many believe are incubated in the country, is flaring. Many are demanding New Delhi prosecute the struggle more aggressively. “How long will our children keep dying like this?” asked one Patna resident.
“The time has come for the government to launch a final and decisive battle against terrorism.” Anger is fieriest among those who suffered losses of family members.
“The government should have a decisive battle against terrorists and their guardian Pakistan,” said Jairam Singh, who lost his younger brother. “Otherwise, the sacrifice of all other soldiers, including my brother, will go in vain.”
“The problem is that our soldiers are being martyred every day on [our] borders,” Singh’s father added. “But, no concrete policy has been put in place, while every other government claims they are fighting against terrorism.”
Suicidal #Pakistan should know Modi may not be scared of its nuclear button - Pakistan has taken too much of a chance with Pulwama — with the wrong government in #India, and at the wrong time. 👎🇵🇰👎  theprint.in/national-inter…
US scholar, Stephen P. Cohen, has a genius description for Pakistani strategic thought. Pakistan, negotiates with the world by holding the gun to its own head: Give me what I want or I'll blow my brains out. You then handle the mess. Has Pakistan pulled that trigger in Pulwama?
First, get any notion of this as a local terror act out of the way. The terrorist was a radicalised Indian Kashmiri. But count the reasons why it can’t be an Indian planned & executed operation: Jaish-e-Mohammed claimed responsibility. Its purely a Pakistan-based & ISI-controlled
While radicalisation and motivation can be local, there is zero evidence that this volume of high explosive (most likely RDX or RDX-mixed) is available with usually amateurish local groups, along with skills to rig the trigger-timer mechanism.
See the video the bomber recorded. He is reading pre-written text from a board placed in front. The language isn’t so much about Kashmiri grievances or revenge, as to instigate Muslims in the rest of India. “all our Muslims” exhorted to rise in revolt against “cow-urine drinkers”
This action fits perfectly the pattern set by Jaish in the past. The suicide bombing of the state assembly in Srinagar in 2001, the attack on Parliament later that year, raids on Pathankot & Gurdaspur, have all had the same objective: To take the terror fallout beyond Kashmir.
To the Pakistani establishment and ISI, Azhar and Jaish are much bigger assets than even Lashkar and Hafiz Saeed. Jaish is their main force-multiplier. The Chinese also acknowledge it, which is the reason they are shamelessly complicit in protecting him.
Why do we raise that question: Has Pakistan finally pulled that trigger on its own head? Because, all the earlier Jaish and Lashkar attacks passed without a publicised retaliation, although we know about some secret “surgical strikes” in the past.
Between Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Manmohan Singh, India was able to ride out the moments of anger with coercive diplomacy, global pressure on Pakistan & a strategic mindset that was fundamentally pacifist, and believed in responding no more than proportionately to any provocation.
Modi's government has no such pretense. It holds both Manmohan & Vajpayee & other governments of the past in contempt for “pusillanimity”. Having made such noise & political capital from the Uri surgical strikes, there is no way its going to hold fire or restrain itself for long.
Pakistan has it coming. Where, how, when, nobody knows. But it can’t be long. It'll also be visible, strong & wrapped in claims of victory. India is in the early days of its most vicious election campaign yet. Modi will not go seeking a 2nd term with the taint of Pulwama.
It will then be for Pak to decide whether to leave it there, or respond to its own popular compulsions to begin a retaliatory cycle. It could, besides whatever happens militarily, end this tenure of Imran Khan. History tells us no Pakistani leader goes to war with India & survive
India's response to Pulwama attack: Precision air strikes is the favoured option

#India takes strong economic action against Pakistan following the Pulwama terror attack - India on Saturday raised the customs duty to 200 per cent on all goods imported from tPakistan, which is a de facto ban. timesofindia.indiatimes.com/business/india…
The decision would significantly hit Pakistan's exports to India, which stood at USD 488.5 million (around Rs 3,482.3 crore) in 2017-18 as it would drastically increase the prices of its goods here.
India has withdrawn MFN (most favoured nation) + status to Pakistan after the Pulwama incident. Upon withdrawal, basic customs duty on all goods exported from Pakistan to India has been raised to 200 per cent with immediate effect," finance minister Arun Jaitley said in a tweet.
The two main items imported from Pakistan are fruits and cement, on which the current customs duty is 30-50 per cent and 7.5 per cent, respectively.
Slapping an import duty of 200 per cent effectively means almost banning the imports from Pakistan, official sources said.

US Nat. Sec. Advisor John Bolton spoke to his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval twice on phone following the attack to offer condolences & expressed support for an Indian response in "self-defence", an open-ended term that allows India to retaliate against Pakistan.
"Ambassador Bolton supported India's right to self-defence against cross-border terrorism. He offered all assistance to India to bring the perpetrators & backers of the attack promptly to justice," India's external affairs ministry confirmed in a statement.
The statement added that the "two NSAs vowed to work together to ensure that Pakistan ceases to be a safe haven for JeM and terrorist groups that target India, the US and others in the region".
A coordinated covert operation response, including drone strikes, has long been the desired objective in some quarters, but Washington has been reluctant to sign on to the idea, while signaling that it will have no problem if India wants to undertake such measures.
The US response to Pakistan's terrorist attacks has moved a long way from counselling restraint to both parties, which was the norm going back to the 1990s, to outright citing and condemnation of Pakistan and its terrorist policies

“As of today, we don’t have any targets to strike beyond the Line of Control, where terrorists used to be ready to be launched to infiltrate into this side,” sources said. This leaves the Indian Army with the option of targeting Pakistan army installations & possible escalation.
Intelligence sources said that Pakistan was anticipating these actions, because of the fact that Pakistan did not vacate its winter posts along the frontiers this year. “At least 50 to 60 winter posts which would be vacated every year remain occupied now & reinforced.

#India’s best #Pakistan Revenge is Endorsing #Tibet Against #China 👎🇨🇳👎 tibetanjournal.com/indias-best-pa…
While the 1.3 billion people of India is fuming against Pakistan, the role of China in these terror attacks from Pakistan based terror groups is unmistakable. India’s surgical strikes against the terror outfits along Indian borders didn't put an end to attacks against India.
The country can do more by recognizing the Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan government in exile against China, the backbone support of the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM).
Although China condemned the Pulwama attacks on record, China has consistently blocked India’s bid to get JeM chief Azhar declared as a designated ‘global terrorist’ at the United Nations (UN).
India should use the economic leverage and at worst the political leverage of recognizing Tibetan government in Exile against China so that they would stop supporting India’s most wanted Pakistan based JeM chief Azhar.
Chinese-made goods from mobile phones to Diwali lights – flood Indian markets. If all of us, in a show of national solidarity, boycott all Chinese goods – following Mahatma Gandhi’s example of shunning British products to get the Raj to quit India –

Indian Air Force showcasing ability to punish, hit hard with precision through Vayu Shakti exercise: Air Chief Dhanoa 👍💪🇮🇳💪👍

timesofindia.indiatimes.com/articleshow/68…
As limited air strikes are being considered, one of the most effective weapons against terror infrastructure in Pakistan, Indian Air Force fighters demonstrated their capability to hit targets with precision by day, dusk and night in the Thar desert on Saturday.
Though the massive "Vayu Shakti" firepower demonstration was planned months in advance, and is held once every 3 years, the unmistakable strategic signalling came through in front of an international audience at the Pokhran firing range just 2 days after the Pulwama terror attack
"We are showcasing our ability to hit hard, hit fast and hit with precision, as also hit during day, hit during night and hit under adverse weather conditions through our autonomous bombing capability," said IAF chief Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa.
We have an ever-present sub-conventional threat as the enemy knows he can't defeat us in a conventional conflict. So, today we showcase our ability to punish, to insert & extricate troops from hostile territories…IAF is ever prepared to deliver an appropriate response.
The high-voltage blitzkrieg with 137 aircraft, including Sukhoi-30MKIs, Mirage-2000s, Jaguars, MiG-29s & Tejas flying from 8 bases. The aim was to show IAF's capability to "identify, fix & destroy targets" with a wide variety of smart bombs, missiles & precision-guided munitions

Ghazi had a narrow escape during an encounter which took place days before the Pulwama terror attack
In a big breakthrough, security forces on Monday gunned down top Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) commander Abdul Rasheed Ghazi alias Kamran, in a 12-hour-long encounter with multiple JeM terrorists in Pulwama area.
In fact, Ghazi had a narrow escape during an encounter which took place days before the vehicle-borne IED attack on CRPF convoy last Thursday. A local terrorist was killed and a soldier was martyred in that encounter.
Ghazi, who was an Afghan war veteran and an IED specialist, was the one who trained Adil Dar, the terrorist from Pulwama who drove the explosive laden vehicle into the CRPF convoy.
Ghazi was one of the closest & most trusted aide of Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Maulana Masood Azhar. He was believed to be in his mid 30s & joined Jaish more than a decade ago. He had been trained in warfare & IEDs by the Taliban and was known to be one of the finest hands of Jaish.
