GandCrab ransomware gang infects customers of remote IT support firms

Hackers are exploiting an SQLi vuln in the Kaseya VSA plugin for ConnectWise Manage. This is software usually used by MSPs like IT support firms for remote PC fleet management.

They use it to create a new admin account on the Kaseya app

Vulnerability was discovered back in 2017. A PoC has been published on GitHub at the time

Issue now tracked as CVE-2017-18362

Attacks confirmed by Mitre, ConnectWise, and Kaseya

A Kaseya exec says they identified 126 companies that were still using the outdated plugin
ConnectWise has also issued a security alert. Not all customers are affected.

Some advice for Kaseya customers from Huntress Labs here: blog.huntresslabs.com/cve-2017-18362…
A Reddit report said one company had 80 workstations infected with GandCrab.

There was also a tweet earlier today about 1,500 confirmed infections but was deleted by the time I got back from the gym. Don't know why. Most likely because it was speculation
