Elections are on Saturday and I want to share a story that will explain why I am wholeheartedly campaigning for #AtikuObi2019

I attended the American University of Nigeria, Yola. Before you write me off as another rich kid I should let you know I was raised by a single mother.
When my mom wanted to put me in a university, she was too worried to send me abroad at 15 and frankly she couldn’t afford it. She hated the “glorified secondary schools” and she didn’t trust the federal school system.

I stayed at home a year until someone mentioned AUN.
Not only was the school fees cheaper than any foreign option, there was option of payment plans. A lot of middle class students attended my school.

It was the most reasonable, affordable choice for many of us.
As a member of student government I came to find out that the school makes no money from students, our fees were mostly used to run our very high tech and expensive campus.
There was a time the grass grew so big we were always seeing snakes, we begged school admin to cut it for our safety and they told us honestly they had to wait for the next round of school fees to be paid. #TrueStory
When the insurgency in north east started and we started losing students we had a conversation with the former president of AUN what would Atiku do next and she told us candidly that he’s always said he’s not worried about turnout he just wants to know he’s given an option.
According to her, he said even if it’s just one student left, he won’t mind spending from his own pocket to make sure the school stays running.
Mind you a large number of people were on full or partial scholarships and we were given travel opportunities paid for by the school. I can candidly say that I won’t be the articulate person I am today if not for the quality education I received. A well rounded experience.
I was present at a meeting with Atiku and AUN alumni where he honestly spoke about his passion for education. Many alums came to complain about their joblessness and Atiku told us how many plans he had after his term as Vice President. He actually apologized to us!
Atiku actually apologized that politics complicated his attempts to make a better Nigeria for us, and he confessed that was the reason he opened AUN! His passion for quality education here in Nigeria. It was why our curriculum is mainly aimed at entrepreneurship.
After graduation, (ironically) Garba Shehu called me to serve with Atiku Media office. He had heard my class speaker speech and told me he saw in me that exemplary Nigerian Youth Atiku had always told him his school would make.
Although I was just basically an intern taking notes, I was privy to be in the room when Atiku was being REAL. I was like a fly in the room and there were no cameras, I could see his raw compassion to help Nigerians.
In one meeting he insinuated if the people think he did wrong he’d like the opportunity to right that wrong. He sees Nigerians as his family, his own children. I was shocked that a politician could be so compassionate.

That was when I knew he was not like the others.
I know many people only know Atiku from what the media misrepresents, but as his actual child, I’d like to beseech you; BEG you. To go out on a limb with me and believe in Atiku the way I do.

If Atiku turns into a monster when he wins, come back and curse me if you must.
Vote for Atiku #RejectBuhari , #RejectPoverty and #LetsGetNigeriaWorkingAgain

The writing is on the wall all around us.
They always say don’t vouch for politicians because they don’t care about us, but I assure you @atiku truly cares. He’s committed to serving and putting Nigeria back on the positive trajectory.

Pay attention to the facts please, not political rhetoric.
