Trouble at Etsy. Accounts have been seeing charges of over $5000 to their credit cards connected to their shop accounts. Shoppers might want to check their accounts as well. Etsy took $12,000 from this shop owner @etsy #etsy
Any Etsy sellers who see this, please retweet! I don't have much of a following so not many people will see it. #etsyseller #etsysellers #etsy
Etsy is not cancelling these charges because that means Etsy will lose a lot of money, so they decided to instead send the money back to shop owners payment accounts. Shop owners will not get their money back until next week and the damage will be done by then.
Not a typo. #etsy #news #money #etsysellers gonna give this a try, but @CNN ?
This is insane! Over $126,000 taken from their account by #Etsy
#etsyerror or #etsyhacked?
Or maybe #etsyfraud.
Why not just cancel the transactions? I think we all know the answer to that.
A better one. #etsycrisis
Sellers who are affected are royally screwed right now. The NSF fees will climb until that money EVENTUALLY goes back into their bank accounts sometime next week. People can’t pay for anything! Could you imagine this happening when mortgage is due?
I just wanted to clarify that this appears to have only affected Etsy shop accounts and not the buyer accounts. If there are any updates I will post them here.
I have created a twitter moment, as those seem to trend quite fast - get the word out. Still no word from the CEO.
Getting lost in all of this is the aftermath. Etsy sellers’ bank accounts have been frozen. Credit cards cancelled. NSF fees. Some people had bills due yesterday that normally automatically withdraw from their bank account but no funds were there. This is very, very serious.
Theres an update from the forum moderators stating that they will refund fees associated with this situation, however what about people’s credit scores that took a hit from missed bill payments due to lack of funds in their accounts? Those funds will not be there til next week.
Etsy needs to explain why some of the withdrawal amounts were MASSIVE amounts of money. Withdrawals of over $80,000 attempted 10x for one seller. Many others saw similar withdrawals. Even those without overdraft saw these withdrawals. Why these numbers???
