I would like one freaking day without having to fight not only to stay alive, but to access the medical services that should be available to me for the $1,978.10 MONTHLY premium I pay to Blue Cross for my HMO as a person with #cancer

But instead it is an exhausting daily battle.
Trying to sign up for #disability because I am destitute from the cost of #healthcare for sick people in America is the most daunting & frustrating process. I have been working since I was 14, including a 4yr stint helping this country in the domestic Peace Corps and I'm angry.
Congress has failed 131M chronically ill Americans by refusing to give us a system where we all have the same access to care. I am trapped in my house because I can't get a wheelchair lift for my porch and a motorized wheelchair.
Last night there was a fire directly across the street and it was terrifying. I could smell the smoke, the lights from the fire trucks were flashing in my windows, but I didn't know exactly where the fire was--it could have been next door.
I was here alone with no way out.
As I continually say on here as I chronicle my own journey--it's not just me. @CDCgov states there are 131M chronically ill & 81M #disabled Americans. 17M people with #cancer, like me. What is being done to ensure we each get the access to medical/social services we need?
It's more than just simple frustration. My life is being put on hold or worse, shortened, by this situation. Others are actually dying. Among these sick & #disabled people are not just folks in late middle age like me, but kids with #cancer or disabilities. We need help.
This is an actual #NationalEmergency: Millions of Americans who either have no #healthcare or who are afraid to access the healthcare available for fear of bankruptcy. If you need a mammogram at $300 or blood test at $1,500 or MRI at $2k, who will pay for it? Real questions.
