A LITTLE THREAD: Here’s how believing victims of violence works: you start by believing. As so many of us correctly did when Jussie Smollett came forward. IF AND ONLY IF subsequent evidence contradicts their story, we evaluate that evidence as it comes.
Whatever the truth of this case turns out to be, I will start by believing the next victim. And the next. False allegations are incredibly rare. Victim blaming and disbelief is all too common and so, so damaging to victims. I know which side I stand on.
IT’S NO MISTAKE TO START BY BELIEVING WHEN PEOPLE COME FORWARD AS VICTIMS OF VIOLENCE, EVEN IF THEIR STORY DOESN’T PROVE TRUE (OR CAN'T BE SUBSTANTIATED) IN THE END. Anyone using this case as an excuse to disbelieve hate crimes never gave a shit about hate crimes in the 1st place
AND ONE MORE THING: Yes, MAGA hats are 100% still the new KKK robes. Why do you think red hats were used to make this look like a hate crime? Still don't believe me? Have a read: businessinsider.com/extremist-kill…
