Coming to you LIVE from the Ismaili Centre in Burmaby where we're set for the third and final #BurmabySouth debate before the vote on Monday. #cdnpoli
We're expecting four candidates to square off

- NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh
- Conservative Jay Shin
- Liberal Richard Lee
- People's Party's Laura-Lynn Tyler Thompson
This room is by far the prettiest debate venue so far
Here's a bit about the theme for tonight's forum. Singh, Thompson, Shin and Lee will be asked about housing, sustainability, jobs, security and more... #cdnpoli
Debate kicking off with opening remarks from Singh. He's saying the number one issue is housing and it's up to government to solve it.
Thompson: "The offensive stench of corruption and lies" is coming form the Liberal party. She attacks Lee for his comment from the last debate suggesting the "dictator laden" UN regulate the internet.

She attacks Singh for his previous comments defending refugees.
Now attacking Shin, Thompson says he played dirty politics for distributing flyers about her.

Grimwood: I don't live in #Burnaby but I used to own a tennis club.

He says he wishes he designed this beautiful Ismaili Centre.
Forgot to mention: Independent Terry Grimwood was a late addition to tonight's forum.

He's now touting his plan to build service hubs in rural Canada.
Lee making opening remarks.

He says he has been to many events at the Ismaili Centre. He's lived in Burnaby for 32 years, half of which he's spent as the BC Liberal MLA.

Touts Liberal plan to grow the economy, create jobs, protect the environment, etc.
"The Liberal plan for housing is working," Lee says.

Conservatives don't have a plan for housing, NDP plan is unrealistic, he says.
Shin says he's honoured to be. He says he grew up in Burnaby and worked at his parents' grocery store.

Liberals are making life more expensive, Shin says. The answer to affordability is low taxes.

Liberals can't finish the pipeline.
Shin: Singh is using Burnaby as a "political bus stop" just like the previous NDP MP Kennedy Stewart who used it as ass top on his way to becoming mayor of Vancouver. #Cdnpoli
First topic of the night is housing affordability.

Q1: How much of a priority is housing, what will you do about it?
Shin: Big driver of housing crisis in Burnaby is the NDP-led municipal government (BCA is NDP-affiliated).

Conservatives will work with city and province on housing.
Lee: National Housing Strategy will build much-needed housing.

Will work with other organizations to build more housing.
Singh: People deserve to live in their communities and afford housing.

Liberals and Conservatives don't care. NDP will build half a million units of housing in 10 years.
Thompson: NDP plan is not feasible.

She points to Burnaby financial reserve which is over $1 billion (it's $1.7B). Says the "NDP" gv't in Burnaby has failed to build housing.

Housing is a provincial issues.
Grimwood: Housing is a municipal issue. Was a councilor in North Van. Burnaby has the resources to address the issue.
Q2: What role would you play as an MP in the federal government to address housing.

Lee: Liberals will reduce homelessness by 50% by building new units in Burnaby South.
Singh: Housing is something the feds have built before and should build again. In the 70s hundreds of thousands of units were built by the feds.

Liberals aren't doing enough.
Thompson: Liberal housing plan will cost Canadians $40 billion. NDP will spend more.

Says immigration is "not sustainable." There's a "neverending flow of new people."

Cutting down on immigration is how the feds can address housing issue.
Grimwood: We could build pre-fab homes in the BCIT parking lot. Would make for affordable rental for students, open up other rentals.
Shin: Best way to make housing more affordable is to grow the economy. Lower taxes so we can invest it into our lives.

We need a tax advantage over the U.S.
Q3: How would you balance pipelines and resource extraction?

Singh: It's the fault of the hard-working oil sands workers their subject to busts and booms. It's Lib/Con fault for not investing in people.
Singh: We need to invest in sustainable jobs for the future.

Thompson: You never know whether NDP will be pro- and anti-pipeline. "Absolutely no cohesion in this party."
Grimwood: I have to admire the premier of Alberta. I was impressed with her speeches. "It's a complicated issue. people don't appreciate how complicated gov't is."
Shin: To invest in sustainable energy projects, we need to invest in our economy.

Trans Mountain is the most environmentally friendly way to transport oil. New pipe is an investment in new tech.
Lee: I understand the concerns of the people in our area. Liberal government balances protecting the environment and growing the economy.
Q: How will you ensure Burnaby can attract jobs?
Thompson: Bernier's plan is "to put Canadians first."

Ending crony capitalism will create jobs; Cut spending. Says Canada should be investing, not paying money to Omar Khadr.
Shin: Board of trade says we have a shortage of skilled workers. Students graduating from SFU don't have jobs at the same time.

We need better training programs so people can gain job skills.
Lee: Education is really important. Liberals are increasing student grants, summer jobs programs, skill training.

Native Education Centre is training Indigenous people for work, including for roofing and construction.
Singh" "It's very sad to me some people want to blame new Canadians for our problems."

I've been to many boards of trade who say we need more people with skills. We also need to recognize foreign credentials. There are too many doctors driving taxis.
Q: What changes would you make to the immigration system?
Grimwood: I want the immigration system to be fair. Said he's met young people on temporary visas who want to stay here but can't.

"I'm all for immigration .. it has to balanced."
Shin: I'm an immigrant. I support legal immigration.

Liberal government brought in Syrian refugees without proper resources.

Trudeau has welcomed "illegal border crossers."
Lee: Canada is a compassionate country that welcomes people to contribute. I'm an immigrant.

My family came in 1971 came here under Liberal family reunification came here.

We need the manpower from immigration.
Singh: Look around this room. Either you're an immigrant or your a descendant of immigrants unless you're Indigenous.

We need immigration. We need to recognize immigrants' skills. We need to make immigration system more transparent.

CPC lottery system unfair. Lib cap unfair.
Thompson: Liberals and NDP are extreme in wanting more immigration.

I was on the only white girl in school in Uganda. I was only blonde girl among Inuit.

Marrisa Shen's murder demands we are careful
Thompson's remarks cause the room to BLOW UP with screams of "Racist!" #cdnpoli
Things blew up in here with lots of hecklers from the PPC crowd, which is the most vocal contingent for the third debate in a row.

I had some technical issues that broke the livetweet.

Accusations of racism went back and forth.
Richard Lee began to cry as he spoke about meeting Marrisa Shen's family, who said they don't want her death politicized.
Hecklers wouldn't let Singh answer a question, calling him a liar when he said he lives in Burnaby. That's former Burnaby First Coalition council candidate Alain Deng. #cdnpoli
(Deng is the one in behind. Not sure who the man in blue is)
If you're wondering whether Singh actually lives in Burmaby, he does and he's actually the only party candidate who lives in the riding. Buuuuut he's only lived there since November. burnabynow.com/news/jagmeet-s…
CORRECTION: Singh said it's NOT the fault of workers...
