My youngest turns 18 today. She was accepted to her dream college and has received some substantial scholarships. I'm very proud. She and her mother are having a girl's night in the living room. But all I keep thinking about is a little boy.
My oldest daughter worked in a bank for 10 years. When my granddaughter turned 9 she decided she'd had enough and got a job in the school district. She does some accounting, some go-fer stuff and shares a building with the special needs kids.
She called me last night heartbroken over Rylan. He's 6, and has ADHD, they said. He lives with his momma and her boyfriend in a trailer with no running water or electricity. She got him a coat for Christmas and his eyes lit up. "This will be a great blanket" he said.
She said he smells, understandably, but she hugs and loves on him and he calls her Ms. Teresa. Yesterday he asked her if she'd buy him 2 slices of pizza and a milk. "Didn't you just have lunch, Rylan?"

Yes, he said. But that will give us 2 slices of pizza until school Monday.
He had a new tattoo, so she asked him where he got it. "It hides the cigarette burn" he said. She had to call DHS, though she despises them. They put him on a wellness-check list.
