I’m proud to have exposed this campaign in my recent reporting on the crackdown on LGBTQ students at @azusapacific. Please share this far and wide to keep the pressure on them and @FoothillChurch.

Here’s my article for @PRAEyesRight in which I quote from Ryan Montague’s email calling for pressure on @azusapacific’s board to reverse its move toward LGBTQ accommodation. This and similar materials were passed to me by sources who requested anonymity.

After publishing that exposé, a concerned APU faculty member reached out to let me know that things are even worse than I knew, with a purge of “liberal” and LGBTQ-affirming faculty brewing. Please let @azusapacific know what you think of this shady move.

The activists @BraveCommons like @azusapacific alum Erin Green are working to put pressure on the school to change course. With permission from my sources, I shared materials with them, and they’ve created videos to raise awareness:

Please watch, like, and share the videos produced by @BraveCommons. Give them (@__runningerins @laurensotolongo @mvsebastian) a follow and promote their work. They are queer Christian activists trying to decolonize Christianity and advocating for LGBTQ inclusion within it. #FF
I am a non-religious agnostic but happy to stand with @BraveCommons and to lend my full support to what they’re doing. This is, to me, a big part of what #Exvangelical is about. Whether we’ve left toxic Christianity for no religion or for better religion, we have much in common.
Non-religious and religious exvies can and should work together (and with allies) to hold evangelicals’ feet to the fire as part of broader efforts to promote social justice and the common good.

Evangelical colleges and universities currently constitute a major front in the culture wars. Only limited victories may be possible in opposing their persecution of non-conforming faculty and LGBTQ students, but that’s no reason not to fight. @BraveCommons is on the front lines.
Standing up for inclusion at evangelical colleges helps queer students there know they’re not alone, and they need this moral support. It also puts pressure on image-conscious administrators who without public pressure would stamp out all accommodations in a heartbeat.
So with that context in mind, please know that if you speak out on behalf of LGBTQ students and supportive faculty at evangelical colleges, your voice matters. What can you do? Share journalism like that I’ve done on this, as that will encourage editors to publish more of it.
Use hashtags like #ExposeChristianSchools, #FaithfullyLGBT, and #WeWillNotBeSilent as you share articles on the topic or the @BraveCommons videos. @ the offenders like @azusapacific and @FoothillChurch so they know you care. Tell them to be better. Get your friends to join in.
If you can, donate financially to support the work of @BraveCommons or of initiatives that foster discussion of #Exvangelical issues, like @exvangelicalpod. I also have a Patreon that allows me to pursue writing, speaking, advocacy, and activism.

This summer, after working at the University of South Florida for three years as a postdoc and visiting instructor, I moved in with my parents and embarked on an experiment to see if I could make writing, speaking, and advocacy/activism sustainable as a full-time job.
Thanks to Patreon support, it looks like I will be able to do so and that I will be able to move back out on my own and out of Indiana this coming summer. I’m immensely grateful that so many people believe in my work and will keep you posted on where I go from here. End thread.
