This morning I’m remembering the lines I’d use trying to convince a jury to believe a scummy cooperator. “Ladies and gentlemen, if you want to hear how crimes were committed from the mouths of people who participated, they won’t be angels.” Huh. Wonder why that came to mind.
The problem with this argument was always that it explained why the government was presenting the testimony of a crook, but it wasn’t a logical reason to believe any particular thing the crook said.
I’m on the other side now. If I were attacking Cohen’s credibility I’d point out that he’s a confessed liar, that he has a strong motive for revenge, and that he has a strong motive to offer a redemption story to frame the rest of his life.
