I get asked by black christians, and other saints of color regularly about whether they should stay in their majority white spaces despite all the race related wounds/trauma they experience there. Every time they consider leaving, they're guilted into staying by white Christians.
Often, white Christians will say things such as, "we need need" or "please don't go". These black/POC Christians are exhausted & traumatized but they feel guilty & so they stay. They don't want to let these white Christians down. They stay, the cycle of trauma and pain continues.
I think white saints often mean well when they ask BIPOC (Black, Indegenous, & People of Color) to stay but the problem is they often want them to stay to carry the weight of ethnic reconciliation themselves. They want BIPOC to stay for optics & to do all the heavy lifting...
So, I ask questions about church dynamics & more often than not I advise such saints to deeply consider leaving such spaces. It isn't healthy to remain in spaces that traumatize you. Also, they can often be more impactful outside cuz while their within their taken advantage of.
