I'm going to drop a thread for Ugandan influencers about the influencer game in Kenya that I have observed so far...

This week a guy walked into my office and he was talking about hiring an influencer.

He had the influencer on a call and he was saying it was either a blog post or a series of tweets. Not both. How?

What witchcraft was this?
The real shock came when he told me the amount: A dizzying $400! 40K KES

As my life flashed before my eyes I started thinking about Ugandan influencers (of whom I had been one) who are paid $15 (50KUGX) for a whole morning/afternoon event.
I was curious so I asked "what are the rates like?"

The answer came back, "That's nothing! its crazy out here"

Note, it depends on your level of engagement and reach but basically this was for an "average" influencer.
Also influencers here do crazy things: they edit and produce high quality photos, post videos, think up their own content, promote their own content, they reach out when brands are in trouble to defend them(for a price).

Honestly the value addition is a lot!
So yes, that might be the Justification for the price premium naye it also shows how UG guys can improve their game.... Anyway, I spoke to my people and got a price average. At the top end these services are ridiculous but that's the world we are in
Now comes the real sauce:

These varies man but approx average:

1 Blog post: 10K to 50K (kes) =380k-1.85m UGX

Instagram Post: 10K to 200K (kes) = 380k - 7.2m UGX

Facebook Post: same as above or you negotiate a package
Snapchat post:not sure

Twitter thread (~20 tweets):10K - 150K = 380k - 5M UGX

Instagram stories (per post) - 1k -5k (Kes) = 30k - 170k UGX

Facebook Stories (per post) same as above.
This is where it got all weird for me:

Attending an event (2hrs includes handshaking, posing for photos. no social media) 10k -100k KES = 380k - 3.8M UGX

But what took the cake for me was

The influencer campaign for 12 weeks on 3 platforms: 500K KES =18M UGX.
Obviously there are lessons to learn here:

1. Start saying no low miss poor budgets

2. Add value: client will pay for where they see value.

3. Invest in your content: The fiercer you come with dope content, the more it becomes undeniable what your price is.
3 Cont'd: package it, promote it, cross post it. Show effort. So that when brands are looking for partners they are like "that's the guy we want."

4. Know your area: The more specialized you are, the higher your price tag can be, coz no one knows the category line you do
5. Strength in numbers: Many people think social is about lone wolves but that's contrary to very thing called "Social Media". Learn to collaborate, work with friends, share lessons and reject bad terms together. If a large number of influencers reject like prices, clients will
5 Cont'd: go ahead and hire cheaper influencers but they will get what they pay for and it will only be patterns time until they wise up. The problem arises when top quality content is gong out for a pittance.
