re: this monumentally stupid idea of a vote to condemn @IlhanMN. I've been reading and thinking a lot lately about what happened to ACORN. Mostly because whenever I train or speak to progressive groups I warn them about not becoming the next ACORN or letting it happen to others.
People forget that at the end of the day it was Democrats, not Republicans, but Democrats who dealt ACORN the final death blow. huffingtonpost.com/entry/2009-aco…
This passage from the above article is SOOO important. Note who controlled both houses of Congress when ACORN went down.
ACORN had been the subject of right-wing conspiracies for ages. Democrats got spooked by the first O'Keefe video and killed it, out of pure fear.
Now everything in that video was disproven. But ACORN is gone and O'Keefe still gets funded. Why is that? Because the right knows this shit works and we'll keep eating our own. So they keep going.
A decade later, the far right has optimized their ability to do these kinds of attacks to divide and conquer the left. We keep letting them.
There's a lot that groups and electeds can do to keep from getting ACORN'd. But when shit hits the fan they need others to have their back. The best defense against a lot of this stuff from the right? Solidarity.
