Thread: On Congressional Travel Perks

1. Some weeks ago you may recall the kerfuffle around canceling House Speaker (San Fran Nan) Pelosi’s entourage’s overseas trip during the government shutdown-over-Wall-funding standoff.
2. It raised the hackles of Democrats and their lickspittle legacy media allies who castigated @POTUS for the dastardly last-second action that left luggage piled up at the airport.

3. A disgusted House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) blasted Trump over the announcement. “It demeans the presidency. It demeans the office, because it's so petty,” he told reporters on Capitol Hill.

4. Judicial Watch subsequently released the results of a FOIA request regarding a Pelosi trip/boondoggle to Italy and Ukraine (!) in 2015:

5. The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the Air Force [ ] detail[s] $134,587.81 plus $50,000 for an advance of funds for an “escort officer” for a total of $184.587.81 for then-House Minority Leader Pelosi’s …
5A. … Congressional delegation (CODEL) to Italy and Ukraine in 2015.
6. The documents show that from July 30 to August 6, Pelosi took a trip to Milan, Rome and Naples, Italy, and Kiev, Ukraine, for herself, her husband, several members of congress and their spouses. The Italy trip included Milan, Rome and Naples ….
6A. … with visits to the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel, Duomo and viewing Da Vinci’s “Last Supper.” The documents also show the Air Force’s negative response to a Pelosi staff request for a specific crew for Pelosi’s flight.
7. An official notes that it: “would be a disastrous precedent to set even if it were possible.” The Air Force further points out:
7A. “Our ARC crews have plenty to balance already with military duties and their civilian employers.”

8. To be fair, the abuse of CODEL trips is bi-partisan. Overseas junkets are the norm, not the exception. But some such as San Fran Nan are serial abusers.
9. Air travel and associated perks (booze, great food, private terminal services, and being waited on hand and foot) are exploited by pretty much ALL of Congress and more agency heads than the public know.
10. Pals of mine who launched out of the same private terminals (usually located at the far end of most large airport freight handling facilities) on various covert missions have directly observed such government "celebrities" - ….
10A. … along with media and entertainment celebrities - getting the red-carpet treatment.
11. Of course, this is never looked into because pretty much every director of the FBI and DOJ executive has been a prime abuser of such services – except that the FBI the director gets his own (near personal) business jet (with the exception of Webster, who had a turbo-prop).
12. This is all known in Congress, and such abuse by the watchers allows those that oughta be watched to get away with – well – even murders.
13. The Air Force in one part may bitch about it, but at the Pentagon level, this is merely a form of politicking. They do favors, and they get access to weasel funding out of Congress and favorable treatment for promotions.
14. And, they get help in securing that all-important high-paying job for the second career.
15. Heck, the Navy keeps a small fleet of VERY expensive pleasure craft at Annapolis for congressional favors, and in the summer, they keep at least one big sailing boat in the Bahamas that congressmen use for catered vacations that are cost-free.
16. At a S E C R E T location not too far out of Washington D.C. is a monster large rustic Camp David-like secure complex that caters to congressmen and wild freaking alcohol-fueled orgies.
17. My pals used it for uncoordinated surveillance training exercises at times and had to swear all participants to silence because if word got out about what was observed, the observers would probably have been "Clintonized" and left at night at Ft. Marcy Park.
18. Getting back to congressional boondoggles and such: heck yeah, out them and cut off those sources of perks. They only lead to worse abuses of position and power because corruption and law-breaking grow when people are allowed to get away with it – and indeed are enabled.
19. So many abusers, and no license to hunt! There are skeletons are out there in many closets and black vaults; one only has to have the will to collect them up and bury them for good. But where does one sign up for that when the DoJ and FBI are in on the action?
20. At the end of it all, @POTUS is about the only person in government who can say screw it and just fly on his own giant private jet. That alone says something about him; he owes no one anything, and yet he is busting his ass for the common American.
21. The wars he is fighting simultaneously on several fronts rank him up there with a Patton or a Lee – or Sun Tzu. Who among us could take on the Democrats, their lickspittle legacy media allies, RINOs in Congress, #NeverTrumpers, the Chinese, the Russians, the Iranians, etc.?
22. I may not agree with every point or tactic – and sometimes his New York demeanor makes me cringe a tiny bit – but I have to respect him for his fighting instinct, tactical savvy, tenacity, and patriotism.
23. Somehow, he manages to camouflage his actions and keep them guessing before striking where and when they least expect it. Reminds me of how special forces types operate in the field. Maybe someone needs to designate him as an honorary SEAL or Army Ranger! ///The end.
