द्विधाकृत्वात्मनो देहमर्धेन पुरुषोभवत्
अर्घेन नारी तस्यां स विराजमसृजत्प्रभु। - #Manusmriti

“In the beginning, the world was equally split into two and from one part man was created, while from the other a woman.”
Note The EQUAL split. #Hinduism #InternationalWomensDay
No. Not created from a man because he was bored and lonely. Woman isn’t a man’s entertainment.
परपत्नी तु या स्त्री स्यादसंबन्धा च योनित:
तां ब्रूयाद्भवतीत्येव सुभगे भगिनीति च।
A woman who isn’t your wife and who isn’t related by birth should be addressed respectfully as “Blessed” “thou” or “Sister” respectfully. - #Manusmriti #WomensDay

Wouldn’t SM be wonderful then?
Manu’s Wife was called Satrupa. Manu was the great emperor. Swayambhu Manu was a Kshatriya and Sage Kadarma was a Brahmin. Sage Shukra a Brahmin proposed his daughter’s marriage to a Kshatriya, Yayati.
Rigveda, the first book in human history is a compilation of various spiritual and philosophical hymns by different sages spoken and collated between some 5000-7000 years back. It has hymns by 27 women sages. #HappyWomensDay2019.
It isn’t important that the women intellectuals of #India that is #Bharat wrote, men included their verses and made them must-read in Iron Age. Salute to #WomenWriters @Sai_swaroopa @DimpleAtra @JayaRjs @ShefVaidya @Shubhrastha @shuchikalra it is in our blood. #HappyWomensDay
One of the great women who led the human intellectual evolution with the writings in Vedas, was none other than the much-maligned Manu’s daughter-Devahuti. Later Mughal era modification apart, making Vedas out of women’s reach, women wrote in Vedas.
Some say, in Manuvadi India, daughters were prohibited from carrying father’s name. Well, Gargi Vachaknavi was a great intellectual who also wrote in Vedas around 700 BC. She got her name from Sage Vachaknu, her father. I don’t know Hinduism-vadi or Hindutva-vadi. #WomansDay
As the great Sage Yagyavalka wins a debate in the court of Raja Janaka, and is about to leave with the prized cows, it is Gargi who challenges the celebrity intellectual and no one questions or patronises. She is a woman, but she isn’t looking for ladies’ queue, she needs answers
No, Sir, we didn’t have timid Victorian women here who’d be burnt as witches for questioning big people. So, Gargi will have her answer and Yagyavalka’s prize has to wait. This was 700 BC. And no, Manuvadi’s didn’t only gave intellectual skies. They also have human skies:
Centuries before the man with dark sunglasses appeared below the Vindhyas, Sage Agastya walked south to connect the North with the South. In 2000 BC, he walked past Vindhyas to build a connecting language- Tamil, under the guidance of Lord Shiva. #Hinduism #WomansDay
Noble thoughts, the great Sage had, making a Nation, Ek Bharat. But wives being wives 😂 his wife, great poet Lopamudra felt neglected. She wrote in #Rigveda, 1st Mandala. #WomansDay
“Through many autumns have I toiled and labored, at night and morn, through age- inducing dawning.
Old age impairs the beauty of our bodies. Let husbands come near unto their spouses." - Oh my God, Do we see a liberated woman here? #WomansDay
Now the West. We needn’t go so far as 5000 years back. Dr Johnson writes in 17th Century. - “Sir, a women’s composing is like a dog walking on his hind legs. It is not done well, but you are surprised that it is done at all.”
“To have lived a free life in London in the sixteenth century would have meant for a woman who was poet and playwright a nervous stress and dilemma which might well have killed her.” Ms Woolf writes. And we had women writing in 2000-5000 BC. Let’s make up for the lost years. 🙏🙏
