Happy #InternationalWomensDay! I’m all about celebrating all women (cis and trans) and femmes and the unique perspective we bring to the world, but today I have a special plea...
It can be public or personal, but please take something feminine-coded and embrace it without hedging or apology. It can be an action, an indulgence, a color, a practice, a style, a movie — anything that is labeled feminine in our culture.
#InternationalWomensDay and Women’s History Month are important opportunities to recognize the value and importance of women and femmes in our world. But this brief uplift ignores that the feminine is still reviled, rejected and repudiated as part of the human condition.
To be feminine is to be human, and to be human is to be feminine, and today of all days is a chance to appreciate that and challenge ourselves, wherever we are on the gender spectrum, to embrace that truth for ourselves.
Around our globe, in every culture and society, women are treated as less than. This treatment gets worse when a woman is not a member of the ethnic or religious majority, is trans or AMAB, or even speaks in defense of her own equality.
In “advanced” countries, hatred and disrespect for women often comes in the form of hatred and disrespect for the feminine. Anything coded feminine is attacked, dismissed, destroyed. Women often feel that we must apologize for even engaging with the feminine, or keep it hidden.
So break that habit today. Respect the feminine as equal to the masculine. Don’t ask anyone to apologize for or hide their femininity. See the feminine as human and humanity as feminine. Because we deserve it. Because it is true. Because women’s rights are human rights.
If you want to do something more tangible for #InternationalWomensDay, feel free to send me a few $ at my PayPal or to become a patron on my Patreon. Feminists don’t run purely on righteous anger; we need to eat too. 😊 paypal.me/gothamgirlblue
