A very unpopular opinion that I have is that most modern organized atheism is just secular Christianity
There's a difference between Atheism — you know, the stuff that Richard Dawkins and Ricky Gervais are patron saints of — and atheism — just, you know, not believing in a deity — but a lot of people tend to miss that distinction
As a Jew who doesn't really believe in a higher power, I'm always going to feel *way* more comfortable in a synagogue that aligns with my politics than I am in some atheist meeting that mimics the format of church but with, like, rock songs instead of hymns
I mean if you genuinely don't think that Richard Dawkins is just a secular Christian, explain this independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-n…
The idea that everyone who doesn't believe in a deity is somehow bonded together with a shared culture purely because of that lack of belief is always gonna be hilarious to me
I mean also, Exhibit B
IT'S SO FUCKING CHRISTIAN
Well this sure got people talking
You’re not gonna dissuade me; as a Jew who grew up in a majority Christian nation I know when something is culturally Christian!
PPS I’m muting this cause wow, I do not have the mental space for everyone’s thoughts and reactions
