Whenever a major celebrity supports an AS-based thing, I'll always take a moment to see how they respond when autistic advocates chime in and try to set the record straight.

If the celebrity quote tweets and weaponizes their followers against us... it's safe to block them.
I will read someone's timeline with responses and judge whether or not someone is acting in good faith.

Some people just plain don't read their mentions.

Others are actively aggressive in response.

Either way, it's important to be careful with deciding when and how to engage.
Either way, I think it's important to know that these celebrities really aren't there for us.

Many of these celebrities will have direct financial involvements with Autism Speaks -- they're getting paid for something, their company is involved, and so forth.
Matthew McConaughey was in ads promoting Kiehl's face cream that benefits autism speaks.

Cheryl Vitali is Worldwide General Manager at Keihl's, and also sits on the Autism Speaks Board of Trustees.

Please, by all means read up on the Autism Speaks board, and read their bios.

I am slowly understanding that the people who serve on the board come from the financial and commerce sector.

Sometimes, they'll have autistic relatives. Usually not.
Home Depot sells blue lights. They certainly don't want to hear from us.
