Real reality of product has many silos - pm, front end dev, back end dev etc. Finally started having value delivery teams that are crossed functional - but it left out ops #ServerlessDaysBOS
If the rest of the org goes serverless then they don't need you anymore to deliver to clients. You can try to control their serverless but they will try to bypass you #ServerlessDaysBOS
Instead ops needs to join the value delivery team and work with the cross functional team #ServerlessDaysBOS
In a cross functional team what's the role of ops? It's "different ops". They can build POC of debated architecture and instrument tools to help drive decisions #ServerlessDaysBOS
There's so many AWS services - can you understand all their operations and the way they perform? What if that was someone on your team's job #ServerlessDaysBOS
The ops person on the team can help catch when things aren't configured the best - should be involved in architecture and PR reviews #ServerlessDaysBOS
Ops person can write the code to handle failures, test on real world scenarios, validate inputs #ServerlessDaysBOS
Have someone running game days, chaos engineering, etc #ServerlessDaysBOS
Shift left - not just ops to dev, but all the way to product #ServerlessDaysBOS
Do you know the scale of usage you need to support? Do you work with your pms to know expected growth? Do that instead of just throwing scale at the problem indefinitely #ServerlessDaysBOS
Think about how it affects your user sentiment - if increasing performance doesn't increase sentiment then you're doing something wrong and focusing on the wrong thing #ServerlessDaysBOS
I have a customer and I want them to be delighted - tracking value along the way. This only happens when you shift closer to product #ServerlessDaysBOS
Serverless is about abstracting technology away so you can focus on making your customer happy #ServerlessDaysBOS
