Here’s an assessment of what it’s like to file a non-emergency police report with the @SeattlePD
First off BZ to the officers of the North Precinct. They were professional and took time to answer questions. The report process was thorough and fair. The officers I spoke to were friendly and knowledgeable.
The waiting room and accommodations were clean and inviting. I did not feel put off or that I was wasting anyone’s time.
While it took 2hrs of waiting I do not attribute that to anything else than higher priority calls. Which is as it should be (mine was a non-emergency incident that occurred Sunday).
While I could not independently verify this, I have no reason to doubt that somebody reporting domestic violence or a rape/sexual assualt would be afforded both privacy and higher priority.
I decided to report in person because I wanted to see the actual process. Trust is earned and not given, while there are staffing issues, I hope that #Seattle residents can begin to have faith in our city institutions. I know today very much re-affirmed mine.
