To all: This is a thread of msgs I left in reply on a TW re: college loan forgiveness. To OP TW some said: trade school, take longer, work FT & do 2 courses @ time, etc. Below, in comments, was part of my replies using some of #mystory. #Twitter #work #school #loandebt #college
/ Since I'm trying to create my own thread to keep msgs together, will add more detail. Born severely premature. Brain injury. CP, Scoliosis, Sciatica, learning disabilities. #Canadian #beginning #life #bio #prolouge #studentdebt #twitter #college
/ Frm 5-25, was victim of long-term child abuse: sexual/physical, medical; beatings; emotional neglect, verbal & psychological torture, captivity, near rape a few times, & oral rape via family, educators, & strangers. #ChildAbuse #Twitter #Negect #Missing #ChildhoodSexualAbuse
/ Also victim of chronic peer bullying, enforced secrecy, & organizational (Thunder Bay CAS) deliberate indifference as well. Chronic abuse changes child brains/helps form personality in toxic enviro. #Twitter #Neuroscience #Brain #ChildAbuse #CollegeDebt #AdultSurvivors #Bio
/ Re: college loan forgiveness TW, which I will post at the end of my thread, several commented against the idea of debt forgiveness. Work, they said. Take longer to do school. Do skilled trade. More $ - debt paid off faster. #CollegeDebt #School #Debt #Twitter #Advice #Loans
/ At a comment saying, go to trade school (instead of a 'useless' major), I began to write the below, as I was/am desperate/genuinely confused to know what to do howw re: my student loans/poverty. #Poverty #StudentLoan #Debts #Work #SkilledTrades #Job #Curious #HowTo #Opinions
/ Chronically ill for 16 yrs, ages 13-29, til Apr'14 maj. surgery. 18 mos aft, chronically ill again & now still. Large Brain Cyst + more. Was doing Early Childhood Education @ Community College (Canada). #Twitter #poverty #collegedebt #work #school #education #major #OSAP
/ Began in Fall '15, online, 5 yrs for program completion. Will miss deadline b/c can't do school now.Can't work, volunteer, walk more than 300 meters w/o help. #Twitter #Poverty #CollegeDebts #Worked #Unemployed #CantWork #Schools #Diploma #OSAPLoan #ChronicIllness
/ Live on $811/mo. $10, 000+ in loans. I WANT to work. I'd do ANY work, major, etc if I physically could. Not sympathy I want. Can't do trade school. #Twitter #TradeSchool #OSAPLoans #College #WhatNow #Spoonie #Disability #ODSP #Jobs #Work #MakeALiving
/ If I'd not had a #TBI, I likely would have done a STEM diploma/degree as at least my undergrad. If I had my way, I'd
work 40-80/wk to make up lost years. I'd live basic, threadbare needs like I do now. One needs not a lot of 'stuff' to live. #Twitter #TBI #Stuff #College
/ Since 2006, I've contacted every appropriate resource, service, etc. to get the services I need re: disabilities. I am not 'good enough' to need no assistance like my non-disabled brother, but not 'bad enough' to need 24hr, every minute care. #Twitter #Disabilities #Chronic
/ I've contacted places more than once. I'm awaiting a neurosurgery consult on the 25th. A couple referrals will happen after cyst drain surgery or removal. #Twitter #Help #ColloidCyst #Neurosurgery #ChronicIllness #Spoonie #Surgery
/ I don't need 24hr, 365 care. At least, not yet. I don't fit a lot of government mandates/ funding. My overall functioning declines still. Have 6 chronic conditions/illnesses; may have 4 more. All this said, what of the students - #Twitter #Employment #LowIncome #SchoolLoan
/ who REALLY WANT to pay our full student loans back, but (suddenly) can't? Hard to be above poverty w/o diploma/degree. ECE, social work, writer, etc. all require a 2-yr or 4-yr BA in Ontario. How to break the cycle - #Twitter #Job #BrainInjury #SchoolDebt #Advice #How
/ when I can't work, can't work more than minimum wage w/o ODSP penalty, can't do fastfood jobs, and can't get a better paying job w/o a piece of paper? #ODSP #OSAP #Twitter #Diploma #Degree #CollegeDebt #College #Job #Work #Money #HowTo #WhatToDo #Options
/ Thought of motivational speaking one day, but I'd have to enhance communication skills through Toastmaster. I want to; I'm too ill to attend/get there. Want to write; need a few specific hard skills I don't know how/where to learn. I read a lot. #Twitter #CollegeDebt #Jobs
/ Definitely NOT saying there aren't ways; brain injury interferes w/problem solving. It's rare/nonexistent for employers to let obe work 4 hours every 2nd day, when they can pay 1 FT worker. Don't know how I'll be 10 mins to the next. #Work #Twitter #Working #Job #Options
/ If I can't work, can't do school to find better work, how to repay loans? Employers won't let an employer work 4 hrs every 2nd day when they can hire 1 FT worker. #ODSP only allows $200 earned monthly before they garnish cheques. #Advice #OSAP #Twitter #CollegeDebt
