BREAKING: The Connecticut Supreme Court just dealt a major blow to the firearms industry, clearing the way for a lawsuit to move forward against the companies that manufactured and sold the semiautomatic rifle used Sandy Hook School shooting.

The ruling allows the lawsuit brought by victims’ relatives to go to trial, which could force gun companies to turn over internal communications that they have fiercely fought to keep private and provide a revealing, and possibly damaging, glimpse into how the industry operates.
The @NRA's legal brief contends that allowing the case to move ahead could “eviscerate” gun companies’ legal protections. Congress gave gun manufacturers immunity in 2005 via the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, aka PLCAA.
PLCAA restricts lawsuits against gun sellers/makers by granting immunity when their products are used in a crime. But the law makes exceptions for marketing practices that violate state or federal laws, or when a gun is given or sold to a person posing a high risk of misusing it.
Hillary Clinton said during her presidential campaign that the @NRA was her number one enemy and that she would work to undo PLCAA if elected. Every single candidate running for President and Congress should be asked where they stand on PLCAA.
