Mainstream political leaders of all hue and colour are immediately elevated to near-sainthood upon their deaths. But it is important that we look at their public lives critically and truthfully. Anecdotes of tea chats, descriptions of demure wardrobe choices aren't that.
@SaffronWatch is doing what our media isn't. #ManoharParrikar

"India is a Hindu nation"

#ManoharRarrikar the RSS man who went to Ayodhya with kar sevaks who demolished the Babri Masjid. Thousands (mostly Muslims) were killed in the riots that followed.

#ManoharParrikar who called Aamir Khan anti-national for his (mild) comment on the growing "intolerance" in the country

#ManoharParrikar who wouldn't book Sadhvi Saraswati for saying the GoI should hang people who consider it a status symbol to eat beef. Her speech "did not have any issue on religious sentiment", Parrikar said.

#ManoharParrikar who assured in the Goa assembly that there won't be any shortage of beef, because he needed Catholic votes to hold on to power, while his 'parivar' was lynching Dalits and Muslims in other states on suspicion of transporting beef or cows.

#ManoharParrikar who was willing to relax his party's stand on beef to gain votes from Goan Catholics but thought protecting their places of worship from desecration would be going too far.

#MaonharParrikar who thought Gujarat riots was a "blot" on Modi's career but did not require an apology.

"There were many reasons why people lost control in 2002 after the dead bodies (from the Sabarmati express fire) were shown on TV."

#ManoharParrikar who said the deaths of thousands of Muslims in the Gujarat riots was a "bad example of governance" & "administration failure"

"Everyone got polarised including the administration. You don't have to blame only the leader."

#ManoharParrikar the IIT B alumnus who said "the rishis were probably great scientists" & gave the example of Dadhichi-vajra

"I think he would have probably done some scientific research to develop a metal which provided that kind of superior technology"

#ManoharParrikar the defence minister who batted for the brutal AFSPA (like his predecessors), compared the Indian army to Hanuman after surgical strikes and argued that the army should have "full power" even as civilian deaths increased in #Kashmir

#ManoharParrikar who presided over "the world's first mass blinding" in #Kashmir but claimed Indian army never violated human rights.

Let's instead talk about how he "missed his fish curry rice & chicken cafreal" after leaving Goa to be defence minister.

#ManoharParrikar the RSS karyakarta who said "Hindus don’t attack anyone, they only do so for self-defense — that is our history. But in the right sense of the term, I am a Hindu nationalist" but went to Ayodhya with kar sevaks in 1992 #BabriMasjid

#ManoharParrikar who thought beef lynchings were "local" incidents which were "blown out of proportion" by receiving national coverage.

"I am a hardcore RSS person from childhood, I can assure you that this has nothing to do with RSS".

#ManoharParrikar who could not contribute to the latest #UrbanNaxal witch-hunt, enthusiastically participated in the previous "intolerance" round.

"...if anyone speaks like this, he has to be taught a lesson of his life”.

"This incident took place because the students, who raised anti-national slogans in the JNU lacked moral ethics"

#ManoharParrikar who thanked ABVP, an organisation that is terrorising university campuses with violence and bullying, for standing against "anti-national" voices

#ManoharParrikar the workaholic swayamsevak who helped change Goan society from minority-friendly to communally polarised, where church cemetries are desecrated

#MannoharParrikar was a militant RSS idealogue whose rhetoric and actions saffronised Goa, put Modi in power, led to deaths in #Kashmir

Couching these facets of his political life under the pretext of respect is normalising hate. Death doesn't wash public figures of their sins.
