As with #foreignaffairs policy that the US employs in the #MiddleEast,
#Trump domestic policy is to employ #Native Leaders who can advise him about accessing #Native land under the guise of cutting Commerce Dept regulations which would open up #Reservations to #BigOil Industry.
#Trump has set up a #NativeAmerican Affairs Coalition w/ 27 tribal members to advise him about the needs of Indian Country. The issue that concerns #Trump & the #native group the most is the desire to access the natural energy reserves on #Reservations.

#Native #Reservations consist of 2% of US Territory but could possibly hold 20% of the country’s “oil and gas reserves.” (This makes wind and solar much more attractive considering you wouldn’t have to steal #native land all over again.)
#NativeAmerican Affairs Coalition of #Native Leaders that #Trump administration chose to advise them of Indian policy proposes to put #Reservations into the hands of private ownership.

#NativeTwitter this is the issue that #MikaelaBearPaw has in mind to help “her people”.
The #NativeAmerican Affairs Coalition seems to be advising #Trump that the strict federal regulations that they must follow is preventing then from achieving more wealth and independence, ie sovereignty. #NativeTwitter
#NativeAmerican leaders such as #MarkWayneMullin are one of the Coalition members who publicly supported #Trump in his presidential campaign and are advising him on his administrations policies toward #Reservations. He believes federal control of #native land should end.
#RepMullin feels #Reservations should no longer be “public.” He feels private ownership of land with less federal regulations over access to gas and oil reserves would allow wealth to accumulation easier for #native communities. He is seeking to achieve this by “broad support.”
#Trump plan to reduce environmental regulations on the Oil and Gas Industry pose an obstacle to #RepMullin achieving “broad support” among #native leaders. #Tribal councils would need to agree with his plan even though it threatens their ability to protect their land.
#Privitazation of #native #Reservations is a concern of the @IENearth which is lead by #TomGoldtooth. As a #tribal member of both the #Navaho and #Dakota nations, he would understand the critical position that #native land plays in the procurement of oil and gas resources.

#Reservation Allotment History presented by Laura Ferguson for the Montana Historical Society.
Previously I posted about #Trump setting up a #NativeAmerican Affairs Coalition headed by #MarkWayneMullin

Trump’s policy towards #Native communities involves Privitazation of tribal lands.

I have also attempted to cover the failure of the History of Allotment.
Now I would like to identify specific policies that #Trump and #GOP leaders have enacted or let expire that harm #Native communities.
An article written by @TomPerez
Chair of the Democratic National Commitee @DNC was published in the Los Angeles Times @latimes in August 2017, 8 months into the #Trump Presidency.

latimes.com/opinion/op-ed/…
He identified the harm that the repeal of Affordable Care Act #ACA, ie #Obamacare, would have on #Native communities.

#Natives in Alaska persuading their Senator @lisamurkowski to stop repealing the legislation was instrumental in saving the healthcare policy.
Due to the fact that the healthcare industry in America represents “1/6 of all spending in the nation” this fight is far from over.

@TomPerez in @latimes states:
One concern that doesn’t often get mentioned in National media coverage of the #BorderWall discussion is the affect that the wall would have on #Native communities whose #reservations straddle two countries. The Tohono O’odham is one example of a tribe at the southern US border.
The next issue that @TomPerez discusses is the
“Privitization of Indian Lands and Resources.”
The #NativeAmerican Affairs Coalition that #Trump set up to advise him on #Native policies is headed by #MarkWanyeMullin who proposes this idea.
#MarkWayneMullin is Cherokee.
He was elected with the support of his community. Since then, however, he has cancelled TownHall meetings in Tahlequah and avoided scheduling new meetings in the Cherokee territory. Constituents protested his avoidance.

In May 2017, #Trump appointee #RyanZinke spoke at the National Tribal Energy Summit organized by US Dept of Energy and National Conference of State Legislatures.
The National Tribal Energy Summit was a networking conference for Tribal Leaders organized by governmental agencies and attended by industry executives, politicians, tribal leaders, and angel investors.

#RyanZinke spoke on May 2 at the National Tribal Energy Summit in a session titled:
A Focus on Key Energy Priorities

His comments about privitization of #TribalNations and creating corporations out of these #native communities harkens back to the Eisenhower Termination policy.
In the @latimes article @TomPerez specifies another concern about the #Trump administrations attitude toward #Native Communities:

Cuts to US Dept of Interior Indian Affairs budget.

@DNC @TomPerez highlights the efforts of his party’s president @BarackObama and his administrations policies toward Indian Country in order to contrast the efforts of the #Trump administration.

Concerning the Violence Against Women Act originally passed in 1994 by Pres @BillClinton:
It was allowed to expire by Pres #Trump in December 2018.

#VAWA
#WinterSierra reports in @PacificStand that with the lapse of the #VAWA community organizations will lose grant funding and thus will not be able to support victims in communities across the nation.

@latimes @TomPerez reiterates the platform of the @DNC in his final statement.
@IndianCountry reporter Jourdan Bennett-Begaye reported in September 2018 of the US Interior Dept actions against federally recognized tribe Mashpee Wampanoag losing their national recognition in September 2018.

newsmaven.io/indiancountryt…
Jessie Little Doe Baird distinguished assistant secretary of Indian Affairs, Tara Sweeney, as one of the people behind the Dept of Interiors decision when speaking to tribal leaders at the Tribal Unity Impact Days in Washington DC on Sept 12.
Ms. Baird was first informed about the decision by reporting on #Facebook rather than being notifyied through appropriate channels prior to the announcement becoming publically known.
National Congress of American Indians statement:
The #NavajoNation maintains the largest #Reservation in the US and their land encompasses some of the most impressive geo-political territory.
#Arizona will be important for #Election2020
#BigOil would love access to the resources contained in the land.
#Arizona is just one of the important swing States in the #Election2020. The #NavahoNation and #indigenous people will be an important demographic to drive out to vote.

@FiveThirtyEight @NateSilver538
If the #GOP cannot sway #native voters to agree w/ their politics by using #MikaelaBearPaw, then they will need to try & suppress the votes as #CambridgeAnalytica did in the 2016 #election.
Electing @Deb4CongressNM @sharicedavids means it won’t be easy.
