THREAD 1. Philip Rosenberg – Director of Public Relations at @BoardofDeputies talking on Argentinian radio re. #antisemitism and #Jewish-#Muslim relations in #UK and #France.
2. #antisemitism is growing in the UK - Incidents in the UK are increasing each year, especially on social media but antisemitism in #France is different re. violence. It’s much more violent in #France than in the #UK.
3. Origin of antisemitism in the UK – generally related to extreme anti-zionism, also old antisemitic tropes re. control and banking unrelated to Israel are also present and used in relation to Israel.
4. Jewish-Muslim relations - different forms of Jewish-Muslim relations in the UK. There are many interfaith activities in UK but it’s a "complicated" relationship incl. re. Israel.
5. But better situation than in France for two reasons: 1. Generally more widely spread out communities 2. Most Muslims in UK (unlike France) aren't Arab – so less direct links with Israel/Pal conflict.

6. UK politics- Brexit = no direct link but affecting environment. Brexit = populist divisive movement. Right now in UK – politics is v. complicated + many conflicts – incl. abuse.
7. Particular problems with Labour party - many incidents of antisemitism with no action against perpetrators. Brexit = uncertainty ahead re. leadership.
8. Aliyah/leaving the UK due to growing antisemitism? We don’t know, there are apparently people starting process for Aliyah (migration to Israel) but not finished process yet. Not many people – not very common. But things could change – depending if #Corbyn becomes PM
9. UK government and antisemitism – actively fighting #antisemitism, very much involved in fighting #antisemitism. PM often talks about antisemitism in Parliament. UK government very much supporting the Jewish community.
10. Problem is then accusations from Labour party members re. antisemitism being a political issue, not real, “created” by Conservative party against Labour party.
