IMPORTANT NEW STUDY: The study analyzes the impact of 10 state-level gun laws on homicide and suicide rates over 26 years across 50 states. It finds that *background checks on all gun sales* – by point-of-sale check and/or permit – were associated with *15% lower homicide rates*.
Other findings:
Laws prohibiting handgun possession for people convicted of a violent misdemeanor associated with an *18% reduction in homicide.*
Laws that limit issuer discretion in determining whether to grant concealed carry permits associated with a *9% increase in homicide.*
This study raises an urgent question for our leaders in Washington: If comprehensive state background checks are associated with a 15% drop in homicide rates, why aren’t these requirements the law of the land?
