- Saudis love incense and consider it a kind of generosity. They burn oud and other kinds of incense to perfume their guests, themselves, clothes, and houses!
- The most preferred incense is oud which is brought from India, Thailand, Cambodia...etc. Saudis burn oud to show their guests they are welcomed and they try to use the best kind of oud for guests!
-Usually Bakhoor is served after guests finish their meal! Also, it's burned in wedding parties with large amounts because it indicates happiness and welcoming guests!
- They burn oud wood when men pray at mosques because purity and nice smell is a must in Islam when you pray! Saudis show that by having oud incense especially on Friday prayer because it's Muslims special day!
- Women burn oud to perfume her body, hair, and clothes! Also, their Abayas!
-Oud oil is another kind of natural perfumes Saudis use! it's made by burning oud wood n distill its evaporation some times they leave it pure or add some musk, sandal, Amber, and other natural perfumes with different amounts. It's strong that's why Saudis put dots on arms,
- behind ears and on beards of men! They don't put it on clothes because it will leave a stain!3rd kind of incense is oudah: it's made of chopped oud wood and added some liquid natural perfumes such as Amber, Musk, and Sandal. Mixed and made small balls and let dry 4 few days
- This kind is for perfuming houses: rooms , curtains, couches not guests nor body nor clothes!
- Mistacka (don't know if there's English translation😅)It's burned to purify and perfume rooms, walls, curtains, fridges! Sometimes added to oudda or oud! It's not for guests! In Western region of SA,Hijas, we burn it and put cups over the smoke to have nice flavor! it's added
- to some kinds of food with very small amount to give flavor! such as milk budding and some kind of kabsa! Rose water: is used after it's mixed with water and been put in a special pot to spray it on guests hands after they finish having the meal!
- Saudis burn a he amounts of oud to welcome pilgrimages. They call them guests of Allah and try their best to show they are vey welcome at the holy land!
-I hope you enjoy our tradition and don't hesitate to ask about any thing! I am from western region of Saudi Arabia called Hijaz and hope my fellow Saudis from other regions add their traditions ( Bakhoor) under this thread!
