The amazing tale of @ChrisCrewtherMP, @Melissa4Durack & the grants to Dunkley community groups under the Community Environment Program. #chaos #dysfunction #estimates 👇
.@Melissa4Durack announced the Community Environment Program in March as a pre-budget announcement. The Department confirmed in #estimates today that the funds haven’t been appropriated yet, and the program won’t be open for applications until the second half of the year.
Liberal & National MPs have been advertising expressions of interest for almost a month now.
The @smh reported on 19 March that non-government MPs weren’t able to get information from @Melissa4Durack ‘s office to give advice to their electorates.

Today at #estimates the Department for Environment confirmed that, in relation to the Community Environment Program:
-Funding is not yet allocated
-Applications are not open
-Guidelines have not yet been drafted
Here’s the most amazing part. @ChrisCrewtherMP must have a crystal ball. On 17 March he posted 3 announcements - complete with videos with @Melissa4Durack - on his Facebook page, announcing 3 grants under the Community Environment Program. Here they are 👇
1. Re the South Eastern Centre for Sustainability: “I was very happy to announce, with Environment Minister Melissa Price MP, that it would be receiving $20,000 from the Federal Liberal Government’s Communities Environment Program*” @ChrisCrewtherMP
*Except the funds haven’t been allocated to the Communities Environment Program and the grant applications aren’t open yet.
2. Re the Down’s Estate Community Project: “I was very happy to announce, with Environment Minister Melissa Price MP, that it would be receiving an additional $10,000 as part of the Federal Liberal Government’s Communities Environment Program*.” @ChrisCrewtherMP
*Except the funds haven’t been allocated to the Communities Environment Program and the grant applications aren’t open yet.
3. Re FLOW: “I was very happy to announce, with Environment Minister Melissa Price MP, that it would be receiving $7,500 as part of the Federal Liberal Government’s Communities Environment Program*.”
*Except the funds haven’t been allocated to the Communities Environment Program and the grant applications aren’t open yet.
According to the Department of Environment at #estimates, these 3 grants were not awarded by the Department early or by another program, and the Department has no record of accompanying @Melissa4Durack to the Dunkley electorate.
This Liberal chaos and dysfunction hurts these community groups - FLOW, Down’s Estate, and South Eastern Centre for Sustainability. They met @Melissa4Durack , were publicly promised a grant by @ChrisCrewtherMP , and now they find out the grant program isn’t even open yet.
Whether we are talking about $444m for #reefgate - or $37,500 in Dunkley for the Communities Environment Program - chaos and dysfunction in this Liberal National Government results in sloppy administration of taxpayer funds, and poor outcomes for the community & environment.
